POLICY & PROCEDURES
Sick Policy: To ensure that sick children have their needs met and to minimize the spread of illness, you are expected to keep your child home when the following conditions exist:
1. A temperature of 100 degrees or higher—Child must be fever free without the use of fever-reducing medications for 24 hours before returning to school.
2. Vomiting or diarrhea—Child must be free from these symptoms for 24 hours before returning to school.
3. Significant symptoms of respiratory illness—Child must not be experiencing thick/colored mucus from eyes or nose, a serious cough, wheezing, runny or crusty eyes, sore throat, or an earache.
4. A rash of unknown cause—If your family physician can identify the rash as noncontagious, we will admit the child to school, providing the rash is not making him/her sick or excessively uncomfortable. You must provide a note from your doctor clearing your child to return.
5. Conjunctivitis (pink eye)—Symptoms include red, itchy eyes, with crusts that form on the eyelids.
6. Contagious conditions—These include untreated ringworm, head lice, impetigo, etc. Your child may not return without a doctor's written clearance.
7. Head injury—This includes any brief loss of consciousness, severe headache, or visual disturbances.
8. Any suspected fracture—Unless the parent requests the student be allowed to stay at school. Displaced fractures that are obvious must be sent home.
9. Cuts, gashes, or open sores—Conditions that appear to require medical attention or visible bleeding that cannot be controlled within five minutes.
10. For infections—If the infection requires a doctor’s prescription, keep your child home 24 hours after beginning the antibiotic.
For all other illnesses, the child may return to school if free from symptoms for 24 hours, providing the child’s behavior indicates that he/she is feeling well. Note: Contact the NVCA Administration Office immediately if your child contracts a communicable disease such as, but not limited to, strep throat, scarlet fever, head lice, chicken pox, impetigo, ringworm, fifth disease, hand-foot-mouth disease, pink eye, or mononucleosis.
BrightWheel: Please note that this year, we will be using a 4-digit code to sign your child in and out of camp each day. To use this system, you must have created an account before the first day of camp. You will receive an invitation to join prior to camp starting if you do not already have one.
Drop off/Pick up: Please drop your student off inside the preschool area. We will require parents to sign their students in and out each day. All ages will drop off and pick up at that location.
Hours: Camp drop-off is open no earlier than 8 AM and pick-up no later than 4 PM. We do not have any extended care before or after during the summer camp programming, so please make sure to be on time all staff leaves at 4.
Emergency Contact Form: The state requires we have a paper copy of immunizations and emergency contact information on file for every student. Please fill out the attached form and send back to me or fill it out in person on the first day of camp.
Dress Code: We are not requiring students to wear their uniforms to camp. However, we ask that all students wear shorts that reach mid-thigh. Short shorts are not acceptable for camp attire. In addition, we ask all students to wear shirts that completely cover their mid-riff and no tank tops. Finally, please ensure any graphic t-shirts are appropriate in any language used and graphics. Close-toed shoes are recommended so that kids can play without worrying about their footwear!
Allergies: Due to many allergies, we are asking families to pack snacks and lunch items that do not have peanuts or any nuts. All of our summer camp students will be in close proximity to students and staff who have peanut allergies, and we want to do our best to keep them safe and healthy.
Friday Specials: Each Friday, we will have a special event or guest, like an animal encounter, an art event, or a science experiment. The times for these events will be different each week, so please plan on allowing your student to be there all day every Friday.
Nap time/Siesta: Preschool students should bring bedding for nap time. Teachers will not be responsible for those items if they are to get damaged or lost, so make sure it is only items you are comfortable with.
Specialty Camps: Students attending basic summer camp will be brought to their specialty camp if they are signed up. They will be brought back after their specialty camp is over. If they are not signed up for the primary day camp, you must pick up your student directly from the specialty camps.
