Salamanca Arts Centre (SAC) is currently seeking applications for inclusion in the Top Gallery 2027 Calendar.
This is your invitation to be part of a significant story:
Salamanca Arts Centre invites artists and arts organisations to contribute to its 50th Anniversary program in 2027, marking five decades of creativity, community and cultural significance in Tasmania. This landmark celebration will honour the history of SAC’s iconic heritage buildings, the artists and communities who have shaped its legacy, and its ongoing role in supporting contemporary arts practice. Participants are encouraged to consider how their work might respond to the Centre’s past, present and future, and to be part of a high-profile year of exhibitions, performances and public activity.
More information about SAC50 can be found here.

Dedicated to exhibiting the works of Emerging Artists, the Top Gallery is an intimate exhibition space infused with heritage character.
The Top Gallery is part of Salamanca Art Centre’s subsidised Access Galleries program and is offered to Emerging Artists who are Salamanca Arts Centre Associate Members on the acceptance of an exhibition proposal. This heavily subsidised gallery space enables Emerging Artists to exhibit, often for the first time as a solo artist, for month-long periods.
The Top Gallery is located on Level 2, nestled beneath the Terrapin Puppet Theatre Workshop in the very attic of the Salamanca Arts Centre at the top of the stairs. The rough-cast, limewashed stone walls, exposed beams and wooden flooring offer a counter-point in form and texture to many types of work.
For more information on exhibiting in the Top Gallery, including Venue Hire Rates and the Conditions of Hire (PDF), please visit the SAC website prior to submitting your application.

Lift Upgrades in 2026
Applicants are advised that upgrades to the Lift (located in the Courtyard) are scheduled for sometime in 2026. We have requested that NRE, the State Department who is managing the new Lift Tender and Replacement process, schedule the proposed works from mid August until December 2026. To date we are yet to receive any confirmation from NRE as to the timing of the Lift Replacement Works. Once the Replacement Works commence, these will impact the Courtyard and the Venues adjacent to the Courtyard. The works will be noisy (at times), and there will be no Lift Access to Levels 1 or 2 within the Arts Centre.
Please consider these impacts if you are planning an exhibition / event from mid August until December 2026, but also keep in contact with us about updates regarding the proposed works.
