The ID Checker / Security role is primarily responsible for:
- Checking patron ID’s to ensure they are the legal drinking age
- Monitoring the Bar area to ensure safety and security

Founded in 1938, Stern Grove Festival is an admission-free summer performing arts festival in San Francisco. Position Description
As a dual role ID Checker/ Security for Stern Grove Festival you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and compliance of our event by verifying the age and identification of guests attempting to purchase alcoholic beverages. You will help uphold responsible alcohol service practices and contribute to the overall security and enjoyment of the festival for all attendees. This position is ideal for individuals who are diligent, observant, and committed to promoting a safe and inclusive environment.
Availability and Commitment
- Must be available every Sunday: May 18, 2025 - August 17, 2025 (except Memorial Day Weekend)
- Must be available Saturday August 16th
- Employees will average 8 hours per week
Stern Grove Festival encourages everyone to apply and hiring priority goes to qualified individuals who can work all or most of the required dates
House Staff can expect a schedule of between 6 and 10 hours each weekend, averaging eight hours per week over the course of the Season. There are additional hours available for pre-season build days and each Saturday toward equipment set-up (scheduling dependent on interest and availability).
Responsibilities
- Assist with setup and breakdown of the entire bar area including tents, coolers, ice, and any other setup and breakdown duties that encompass the successful operation of the bar area before, during and after the event.
- Verify the age and identification of guests attempting to purchase alcoholic beverages, ensuring compliance with legal drinking age requirements.
- Check IDs for authenticity and accuracy, looking for signs of tampering or fraudulent documentation.
- Secure “21+ wristbands” onto the guests wrist
- Communicate effectively with guests in a friendly and courteous manner, explaining ID verification procedures and addressing any questions or concerns.
- Monitor the flow of guests at beverage service areas, identifying and addressing any issues or disturbances as needed.
- Collaborate with festival organizers, security personnel, and other staff members to ensure consistent enforcement of ID checking policies.
- Report any incidents or violations of festival policies to designated supervisors or authorities, following established protocols.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times, respecting the privacy of guests and handling sensitive information with care.
Requirements
- Must be L.E.A.D. Certified in California (More Info)
- Must have a valid C.A. Guard Card (More Info)
- Previous experience in a similar role is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with legal drinking age requirements and responsible alcohol service practices.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately verify identification documents.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact confidently with diverse groups of people.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in potentially high-pressure situations, exercising good judgment and discretion.
- Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work all Stern Grove Festival Events which may include evenings and weekends.

Reporting Relationships
ID Checkers/ Security are part of the Operations Department. ID Checkers/ Security report directly to their Bar Manager under the direction of the Festival Operations Manager.
