Inland Empire Swimming All-Star Teams rely on the committed assistance of adult chaperones, in order for team travel to be possible for our athletes and coaches.
It is essential that anyone submitting an application to be a team chaperone understand and agree to the following:
1. Chaperone Duties & Support of IES Travel Team
One of the primary duties of a team chaperone is the supervision of athletes. It is an IES Team Travel requirement that there is at least one team chaperone in the team area at ALL times.
The team area may not be within sight of the competition venue. While every effort will be made to allow chaperones an opportunity to watch their athlete compete (if applicable), this opportunity is not guaranteed.
Additional duties as a team chaperone may also include:
- helping to organzie athletes for team travel each day to and from the hotel
- planning for and serving meals and snacks
- supply runs to local grocery stores
- assisting with room checks at night
- and anything else that helps our athletes and coaches be at their very best!
The role of the team chaperone requires patience, kindness, and a calm demeanor while providing care and support for ALL of our IES athletes and coaches. Being a team chaperone is not an easy job, and we are grateful for your willingness to support our athletes and coaches in this way!
2. Application Requirements
All chaperones must meet the following criteria:
- Complete and return a signed copy of the IES Code of Conduct & Team Travel Policy as part of the Chaperone Application.
- Be a USA Swimming registered non-athlete in good standing
- Pass a comprehensive background check through USA Swimming
- Pass a DMV Motor Vehicle Report
- Pass Athlete Protection Training through USA Swimming
Item 1, above, is required as the final part of the Chaperone Application.
Applications will not be eligible for consideration until the signed document is received.
NOTE: Items 2 - 5 are not required to submit an application; however, if selected as a Team Chaperone, applicants will only be accepted on a conditional basis until these items are completed.
Any fees associated with obtaining the required certifications, Items 2 - 5, are the sole responsibility of the applicant, and will not be reimbursed by IES.
If selected as a Team Chaperone, the Final Deadline for completion of Items 2 - 5 is June 15, 2025, or the applicant will not be eligible to be an IES Chaperone.
3. Expenses
All travel, lodging, and meal costs (the team eats together for all meals) for chaperones will be covered as part of team expenses. Chaperones of the same gender are expected to share a hotel room as part of team travel arrangements.
IES will cover the cost of Chaperone Team Gear, travel, lodging, and meal costs.
Chaperones are responsible for the following expenses:
- Any fees associated with obtaining the required certifications listed above, Items 2 - 5
- Any personal expenses incurred during team travel
