    The following questions are for those interested in volunteering for the Laru Beya Collective's Fall 2024 - Spring 2025 programs. Our Intro to Surfing lessons for Far Rockaway + NYC youth has ended for this year. Our fall & spring programming includes art workshops, indoor & outdoor climbing sessions, & snowboarding sessions, and will take place from September 2024 - May 2025. There will be opportunities for volunteers to participate in our tabling events, fundraisers, & grant writing sessions.

  • Laru Beya Collective

    Laru Beya Collective

    is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to empowering the historically excluded youth of Far Rockaway and NYC through year-round mentor leadership activities. We offer free programs in surfing, water safety, and rock climbing to address inequities in outdoor spaces.

  • Our mission is to provide lessons to the HISTORICALLY EXCLUDED youth of Far Rockaway.

    We are so thankful for our incredible volunteers' commitment to our mission! Please fill out one form per person. And please be as honest as possible in your responses. This is to integrate you into our team as seamlessly as possible. After we have received your submission, we will confirm via e-mail and contact you for next steps - likely a background check. Please let us know, in one of the questions below, if you are able to help with the $40 cost for a background check. Thank you!

    The following questions are for those interested in volunteering for the Laru Beya Collective's 2025 Summer Surf Program. We offer Intro to Surfing lessons for Far Rockaway + NYC youth. These are our basic intro classes where kids will learn the functions of the surfboard, basic board skills, safety measures, and surfing etiquette.

  • We also offer our mentees monthly indoor rock climbing sessions + outdoor climbing trips(at least 4) throughout the year. Do you have any rock climbing experience?*

  • COMMITMENT

  • We ask volunteers to COMMIT TO ONE LESSON PER WEEK for 6 consecutive weeks for either SESSION I or SESSION II. But we understand some volunteers are only able to commit to fewer days in the 6 weeks session. Are you able to commit to attending weekly for the 6 weeks session?*
  • We ask volunteers to COMMIT TO ONE LESSON PER month for our indoor monthly climbing sessions from September 2024 - May 2025. But we understand some volunteers may be only able to commit to fewer months in the year round sessions. Are you able to commit to attending monthly for the year round sessions?

In addition, our Camp + Climb trip will be in the spring 2025 & includes an overnight stay.
