    Application Deadline: March 5, 2026

Texas Folklife invites women artisans from the Rio Grande Valley and across Texas to apply for the 2nd Annual Threads of Tradition Festival, a one-day celebration held during The Big Squeeze Youth Accordion Competition.

This daytime event highlights the creativity, skill, and cultural knowledge of women artists whose work reflects community, heritage, and lived experience.

    Selected artists will:
    • Receive a stipend
    • Sell their goods
    • Host a showcase table or installation
    • Include an interactive art component

Interactive elements are required. Past examples have included magnet-making stations, DIY poetry, abstract self-portraits, and other hands-on activities that invite public participation.

    Please note:
    • Travel and hotel expenses are not covered
    • Artists must be available for daytime programming

Join us for a vibrant day of youth music, art, and cultural exchange in the Rio Grande Valley. For ideas or questions about your interactive component, email us at mfreire@texasfolklife.org.
