Higher education and critical research are under attack. The Trump administration and Republicans in Congress are attempting to eliminate billions of dollars in critical federal research funding to advance their extreme agenda and finance tax breaks for the wealthy. Even worse, the Trump administration is using these cuts as a cudgel to further their attack on immigrant and non-citizen workers. In Washington, Governor Ferguson has proposed an austerity budget including a monthly furlough day for all state employees. At UW, the administration has tried to change the rules to make it easier to furlough and lay off workers instead of standing up for us, public research, and higher education.
