Support in the U.S. – Sponsor Circle Program
The U.S. refugee resettlement program, Reception and Placement (R&P), is currently suspended and you will not receive assistance upon arrival through government-funded resettlement services.
If you need support when you arrive, the Sponsor Circle Program can help match you with a group of volunteers in the U.S. These volunteers are called “sponsors” and they welcome you and help you settle into your new home.
Volunteers are not available in every location, so if you request this support you must be willing to resettle to a location where we have volunteers ready to welcome you.
Sponsor Circle Support
Volunteer groups (“sponsors”) help newcomers access services and resources over a temporary period of 90 days. Their role is to make your transition to life in the U.S. easier and help you become independent as quickly as possible. These services may include:
- Welcome: Sponsors may greet you at the airport and take you to where you will live when you first arrive.
- Housing assistance: Sponsors will help you find a place to live, whether temporary or permanent, and guide you through the rental process.
- Basic needs: Sponsors help with essentials such as furniture, household items, food, and clothing when you first arrive.
- Navigating daily life: Sponsors help you understand public transportation, grocery shopping, opening an American bank account, and how to access important services.
- Healthcare and education: Sponsors will guide you in enrolling in healthcare services and schools for your children, if needed.
- Employment: Sponsors will help with job searches, applications, and interviews. They can help you understand how to transfer your skills or credentials to jobs in America.
- Cultural orientation: Sponsors will introduce you to the local community and help you learn about American culture. They may also connect you with other people who share your background or interests.
What Sponsor Circle is Not:
- Sponsors are not paid and will not pay you.
- Sponsors are not employers and cannot guarantee jobs.
- Sponsors are not financially responsible for you or your family after 90 days. Once you begin earning an income, you will be responsible for your own rent, bills, and expenses.
- Sponsors are not immigration officials or professional resettlement case managers.
Completing this form does not guarantee travel, resettlement, or sponsorship support. After completing this form, representatives from the Afghan Allies Safe Arrival Initiative will contact you to discuss our ability to assist.
