The Craftsbury University will take place this year from April 25 to May 17 and offers more than two dozen workshops on every topic from Origami to Changing your car's Oil! Sign up for as many classes and you would like to attend! All classes are free and hosted by Craftsbury Community members! Some classes have limited space, so don't wait! We will reach out to you soon with confirmation and any specific class details.

Origami Workshop - April 25, 3:00 pm - Craftsbury Public Library - Emma Woldon - In this workshop we'll be making origami fortune tellers along with small boxes. Recycled paper and step-by-step instructions will be providedHomemade Yogurt & Artisan Rolls - April 26, 9:30 am, Mountain Hill Rd - Paula Davidson - Come learn simple methods for making your own yogurt and German style rollsCLASS IS FULL! Signup for waitlist - A walk in a Managed Forest - April 26, 1:00 pm - Alfond Woodlot - Ross Morgan - A walk with forester Ross Morgan to look at a woods where wood has been harvested using silvicultural practices derived from centuries of development in central Europe. The walk will stop at many places to explain and discuss history of the forest stands, some of the principles and concerns that go into planning and carrying out forest management work.Spotting Misleading Statistics and Graphs in the News - April 27, 2:00 pm - Craftsbury Public Library - Adrienne Epstein - We see numbers and statistics in the news every day. During the COVID-19 pandemic, statistics were everywhere and often difficult to interpret. This course will provide an overview on some of the things to look out for when interpreting statistics in the media. We’ll analyze real-world graphs and visualizations, breaking down how they can mislead or distort the truth. We'll highlight things to look out for the next time you're reading the newspaper or watching TV.Intro to Yoga Nidra - April 27, 5:15 pm - Sterling College Simpson Hall Room 1958 - Judy Springer - Yoga nidra is an integrative style of yoga that promotes deep relaxation through a meditative practice geared to restore the body and quiet the mind. Learn techniques for using yoga nidra to improve your resiliency, stress levels and sleep quality. This class is suitable for all levels. Dress warmly in loose-fitting clothes (even your pajamas!) and bring a mat or blanket to lie on, a blanket or sleeping bag to cover yourself, and an optional eye pillow or scarf.Death Nesting - April 30, 5:00 pm - Craftsbury Public Library - Anne-Marie Keppel - Learn about the ways that community deathcare can strengthen your community and enhance your own experience of living! In this two hour intensive on death and dying and the role of the death doula, two-time award winning author and international speaker Anne-Marie Keppel will share with you techniques for physical care for those who have mobility challenges as well as mindfulness practices for self-care and supporting each other during times of grieving. Reading Death Nesting: The Heart-Centered Practices of A Death Doula in advance of the workshop will help you have a more fulfilling experience. Join us for a tour of the local fungal residents here on Sterling campus. Let’s identify mushrooms & sample lichen in a walk through the woods! Wear boots for wet, the ground is uneven and probably wet.Vegetable Fermentation - May 3, 10:30 am - Sterling College - Make your own pickles! Learn to preserve and enhance your own food using Lacto-Fermentation. Sample delicious pickled vegetables and start your own pickle jar that you can take home to watch (and taste) transform!Sterling Tour for Townies - May 3, 12:30 pm, Sterling College - Let’s explore resources available at Sterling for local community members to visit our campus and engage with students. staff, and faculty!Plant ID & Sampling - May 3, 12:30 pm, Sterling College - Learn about carbon sequestration and data gathering techniques as we walk through wetland and secondary forest ecosystems. We will learn how to identify flowers, weeds, and trees. We will assess water health utilizing various techniques including a portable microscope! For a number of years, I did searches with my Bloodhounds for missing pets all over Vermont and into NH and NY. I would like to share some of the experiences I've had and teach people why pets leave, where they go, and how to find them.Nurturing Young Readers - May 6, 5:00 pm - Craftsbury Public Library Children's Room - Susan O'Connel & Paula Davidson - Is your child on the cusp of reading, or reading more each day and about to leap into chapter books? As a parent, you want to nurture your child's growth, and reading is no exception. Two librarians from Craftsbury Public Library are ready to prepare you for the job! We'll introduce you to current genres, authors, and trends in children's literature, including e-books and audiobooks you can access from anywhere.Waste Reduction, Reuse & Recycling 101 - May 6, 5:00 pm - Craftsbury Public Library - Erika Schaper - Do you have burning recycling questions, or the desire to learn more about where your materials go when they leave your town? In this workshop we will present on why participating in single-stream and special material recycling programs is so important. Before we dive into this creative placemaking, we will discuss different kinds of maps and their various purposes. The goal of the workshop is to convey connections to place and deepen relationships with each other and Craftsbury.Meet the Honeybees - May 18, 11:00 am - Breadseed Farm - Bill Day - Visit a small local beeyard where beekeeper Bill Day will open a few hives and do his best to answer every question about bees and beekeeping. All ages and all levels of experience are welcome. Children are very welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult. Bill Day has been a beekeeper since 2006. This is his second season keeping bees in the NEK.
