2026 Slow Mow-Let it Grow Program
Slow Mow - Let It Grow (previously No Mow May) is a pollinator conservation initiative that recognizes the importance of early flowering plants in residential lawns that can provide critical pollen and nectar resources to pollinators emerging from winter hibernation and returning from winter migration habitats. If you live within the City of Sun Prairie, this program facilitates reduced lawn mowing practices during a part of the year when urban landscapes lack flowering plants while also decreasing carbon emissions often associated with lawn care operations. The City of Sun Prairie is excited to offer its residents the opportunity to participate in its 5-week long Slow Mow-Let it Grow program from 4/20-5/31. Registered participants will have the opportunity to pick up a yard sign and a native plant seedling (details will be provided via email).

Additional Pollinator Conservation Practices
What additional pollinator conservation practices will you commit to in 2026? (check all that apply)
*
I will plant native plants in my yard
I will replace some of my lawn with native wildflower alternatives
I will register for a Natural Lawn Permit with the City of Sun Prairie
I will sow a no-mow or low-mow lawn
I will set up shallow watering stations in my yard for pollinators
I will leave the leaves in my yard to increase pollinator hibernation and nesting habitat
I will delay garden cleanup, leaving stems and leaf debris until spring to provide pollinator hibernation and nesting habitat
I will reduce or eliminate fertilizer, herbicide, and pesticide use, and utilize organic alternatives as needed
I will use a higher deck setting on my lawnmower when I need to mow
I will reduce the frequency that I mow all mowing-season long, allowing for flowering lawn species to bloom in between cuttings
I will display a Slow Mow-Let it Grow (or No Mow May) yard sign in my yard to increase awareness of this practice in my neighborhood
