    Application for Leak Adjustment

  • Leak Adjustment Requirements

  • Effective June 1, 2023, the following are qualifications for leak adjustments for the Central Alabama Water ("CAW"):

    1. This policy only applies to residential and commercial water customers of the CAW.  Adjustments for sewer billings are controlled by a separate agreement between the CAW and Jefferson County.

    2. It is the customer's responsibility to keep their plumbing system in good working order.

    3. Residential customers shall receive no more than two (2) leak adjustments during any twelve (12) month period.  Commercial customers shall receive no more than one (1) leak adjustment during any twelve (12) month period.

    4. Adjustments on water bills will NOT be made on the following:

    • Customers who do not have their own water meter.
    • Negligent acts such as leaving water running.
    • Excess water consumption not directly resulting from a qualifying plumbing leak.
    • Filling of swimming pools not directly resulting from a qualifying plumbing leak.
    • Watering of lawns or gardens.
    • Customers who do not have active contracts.

    5. Residential customers must present proof that a leak has been repaired before an adjustment will be made (i.e., copy of invoice for materials or bill from plumber).  Commercial customers must present proof from a licensed plumber that a leak has been repaired.

    6. Central Alabama Water shall not be obligated to make adjustments of any bills not repaired within one hundred eighty (180) days and not submitted for adjustment within twelve (12) months from the billing date.

  • Residential Customers

  • 7. In the event of a qualifying leak adjustment, the residential customer will be responsible for paying their average bill.  The average bill will be calculated using the previous twelve (12) months' bills, excluding the high bills pertaining to the qualifying leak.  In any case where a residential customer might incur a leak before there is three (3) months of average usage, an adjustment will not be made until they have established three (3) months of average usage.  If you have a private meter, you must submit your current meter reading.

  • Commercial Customers

  • 8. In the event of a qualifying leak adjustment, the commercial customer will be responsible for paying fifty percent (50%) of the excess water amount above the normal usage, not to exceed three (3) consecutive months.  In any case where a cocmmercial customer might incur a leak before there is three (3) months of average usage, an adjustment will not be made until they have established three (3) months of average usage.  If you have a private meter, you must submit your current meter reading.
