All volunteers age 18 and over must be Safe Environment cleared in accordance with the Diocese of St. Augustine. This includes completing the Protecting God's Children program (those who have taken it previously may need to complete additional online modules to remain current) and having an active background check on file through St. Patrick Parish, which must be renewed periodically. If you have not completed one or both of these requirements, the VBS Director will provide instructions on how to do so.

Youth ages 15-17 are required by the Diocese of St. Augustine to complete the Healthy Relationships for Teens online safe environment training prior to volunteering at VBS with children. This training only needs to be completed once. Students at bishop Snyder and Bishop Kenny High Schools may have completed this module during the Religion class in 19th or 11th grade. If you have not completed this training, the VBS Director will contact you with instructions.

Safe Environment Requirement for Teens (Ages 15-17)Teens ages 15-17 must complete the Healthy Relationships for Teens online safe environment module (Virtus) prior to volunteering. This training is often completed through religion class at Catholic high schools. Completion of this module is required and will be verified. Youth Roles All volunteer roles are active and fast-paced. While I will do my best to place you in your preferred role, it is not always possible, so I ask that you remain open to where you are most needed. The positions below are those that need to be filled—please select any roles you would be willing to serve in (you may choose more than one).
Group Helper - Assist the Group Leader in guiding a group of children from the opening assembly through each station, helping at activities as needed and ensuring children clean up and keep track of their personal belongings. In addition, greet children at sign-in and help them find their groups, and at dismissal ensure each child is safely released to their parent/guardian. Optional: Volunteers are welcome to dress in theme as a safari tour guide or a disciple of Jesus from Biblical times.
Games Station Helper -Responsibilities: Assist the Games Station Leader in setting up, resetting, and running outdoor games, and help keep track of all game materials and components. Volunteers should be comfortable spending time outdoors in the sun and heat. Optional: Volunteers are welcome to dress in theme as a safari tour guide or a disciple of Jesus from Biblical times.
Music Station Helper - Responsibilities: Assist the Music Station Leader in guiding groups of children through this energetic and engaging station. An enthusiastic and upbeat personality is ideal, and a tolerance for noise is helpful. Help set up and run music-based games, learn and practice the action songs, and actively participate in them both at the station and during the Opening and Closing Assemblies. Optional: Volunteers are welcome to dress in theme as a safari tour guide or a disciple of Jesus from Biblical times.
Snack Station Helper -Assist the Snack Station Leader in setting up and preparing all food and supplies, including basic food prep tasks such as cutting, portioning, plating, and serving. Maintain good personal hygiene and follow safe food handling practices throughout the day. Help guide each group of children through the station, serve snacks and encourage children along with their group leaders/helpers to clean up before rotating. Craft Station Helper - Responsibilities: Assist the Craft Station Leader in setting up all materials for the daily craft, help guide each group through the activity, and support the children as needed to complete their projects in a timely manner. encourage children, along with their group leaders and helpers, to clean up their work area before rotating to the next station. Optional: dress in theme as a safari tour guide or a disciple of Jesus from Biblical times.
Photographer/Media Support - Responsibilities: This role is best suited for a responsible youth with experience using a camera and basic technology (computers, projectors). Assist the VBS Director with any computer or projector troubleshooting, and take candid, group, and individual photos of participants and volunteers throughout the week. The photographer must have their own camera. Photos will be uploaded to the VBS laptop for creating a digital slideshow to be shown at the end-of-week-celebration. It is preferred that the individual child and group photos are taken for printing (e.g., CVS/Walgreens) and prepared for distribution by Friday morning; printing costs will be reimbursed with receipt. A tripod is helpful but not required. Full-week attendance is necessary for this role.

Games Station Leader -(Most Needed) Responsibilities: Set up and organize all supplies (provided) needed for outdoor games, become familiar with the games ahead of VBS, direct groups of children through each activity, and briefly share how each game connects to the VBS theme (simple prompts will be provided). Encourage participation and help children clean up the station before rotating. This station is located outdoors under a pavilion, so volunteer should be comfortable in the sun and heat; a water cooler will be available. Youth volunteers will be assigned to assist you throughout the week. Optional: Dress in theme as a safari tour guide or a disciple from Biblical times.
Virtue Demonstration -Responsibilities: Using provided props, present a short, scripted daily virtue demonstration during the opening assembly on stage using a microphone; volunteers should be comfortable speaking in front of a group and must be a Catholic comfortable presenting Church teaching.
Group Leaders- Lead a group of children from the opening assembly through each station, helping them stay on schedule and assisting them as needed at each activity. Participate in action songs and help children keep track of their personal belongings throughout the day. This role includes working closely with youth volunteers who will be assigned to support you. Optional: Volunteers are welcome to dress in theme as a safari tour guide or a disciple of Jesus from Biblical times.
Welcome Team - Serve at the welcome table to assist with parent/guardian check-in and check-out, maintain accurate sign-in/sign-out records, and help direct children to their group leaders or assistants. Ensure all take-home materials are distributed to families at dismissal. This role requires a welcoming and organized presence, and volunteers may also serve in an additional role if desired. Optional: Dress in theme as a safari tour guide or a disciple from Biblical times.
Music Station Leader - Lead groups of children through the music station by playing music videos, guiding participation in action songs, and leading simple music-based games (such as musical chairs, freeze dance). Briefly connect each activity to the daily VBS theme (short script provided). Youth volunteers will be assigned to assist with leading movements and activities. Guitar and keyboard sheet music is available for those with these skills, but musical experience is not required for this role. Optional: dress in theme as a safari tour guide ro a disciple of Jesus from Biblical times.
Hospitality Team - Responsibilities: Oversee the volunteer snack area, keeping it clean, organized, and stocked with donated supplies throughout the day. Periodically check on and deliver water or snacks to the Music, Faith, and Games Station leaders, and help ensure youth volunteers do not linger too long at the hospitality area so they remain engaged in their assigned roles. Optional: Dress in theme as safari tour guide or a disciple of Jesus from Biblical times.
Decorating Team - Work alongside our Decorating Team Lead to help create, gather, and prepare decorations for VBS. This may include simple crafting, organizing supplies, and setting up themed decor based on this years VBS theme. Volunteers should be available to assist with decorating set up on Saturday, June 13 and/or Sunday, June 14 (final setup timing will be confirmed). This role is a great way to support VBS behind the scenes and help bring the experience to life for our children!
