  • ART20 Pre-requisites

    • Have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to participate in the Advanced Resuscitation Techniques course.
    • Have completed the NSW RFS Member Induction course or equivalent.
    • Have completed NSW RFS Fire Fighter 1 (formerly Bush Firefighter) or NSW RFS Bush Firefighter Awareness (formerly Bush Firefighter Support).

  • ART20 - Recertification Pre-requisites

    • Have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to participate in the Advanced Resuscitation Techniques course.
    • Have completed the NSW RFS Member Induction course or equivalent.
    • Have completed NSW RFS Fire Fighter 1 (formerly Bush Firefighter) or NSW RFS Bush Firefighter Awareness (formerly Bush Firefighter Support).
    • This is a recertification course for those already holding Advanced Resuscitation HLTAID015 - Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy, and are current in FAA/HLTAID011 - Provide First Aid.

  • BF19 Pre-requisites

    • Have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to participate in the BF course
    • Have successfully completed NSW RFS Member Induction (MI) course
    • PUAFIR210 Prevent injury is a pre-requisite unit for the units: PUAFIR204 Respond to wildfire and PUAEQU001 Prepare, maintain and test response equipment. PUAFIR210 is awarded through:
      › Part A assessment: Successful completion of the NSW RFS eLearning course Member Induction
      › Part B assessment: Successful completion of face-to-face practical assessment, following site/workplace induction prior to BF course training which includes:
      - collection of PPC/E
      - candidate demonstration of donning of applicable PPC/E
      - participation in debriefing session regarding hazard and risk control.

  • CFL24 Pre-requisites

    • Have completed AF Crew Awareness and Safety (CAS).
    • Have completed Community Engagement Facilitator (CEF).
    • Have completed Introduction to Community Engagement (ICE).
    • Have a keen interest in supporting CFL work during emergencies.

  • CBD19 Pre-requisites

    • Have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to participate in the CBD course.
    • Have completed their NSW RFS Member Induction (MI) or equivalent.
    • Be able to understand and speak the English language sufficiently well to conduct briefings or debriefings in a tactical operational or incident management context.
    • Be qualified to the level of Crew Leader (CLS) or Communications Centre Operator (CCO); OR
    • Have been identified to perform Incident Management roles by an RFS Manager and have successfully completed Incident Control Systems for Incident Management Teams (ICS for IMT) qualification.

  • CAS19 Pre-requisites

    • Have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to participate in the CAS course.
    • Have completed the NSW RFS Safety Induction Course or its replacement Member Induction Course (MI).
    • NSW RFS Bush Firefighter (BF) or NSW RFS Bush Firefighter Support (BFS).
    • PUATEA001 Work in a team (covered by RFS NSW BF, BFS and MI).
    • PUAFIR210 Prevent injury (covered by RFS NSW BF, BFS and MI).

  • CLS19 Pre-requisites

    • Have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to participate in the CLS course.
    • Have completed their NSW RFS Crew Leader Wildfire (CLW).
    • While medical and physical fitness standards are not specified for CLS, undertaking crew leader responsibilities is strenuous and demanding. Members should seek advice from their doctor before engaging in crew leader activities if they suffer from any condition that could affect their safety or the safety of others. These might include and not limited to conditions that can be aggravated by strenuous activity, or involve high heart disease risk factors, the risk of sudden loss of consciousness, limited mobility or agility, or a diminished ability to detect and avoid hazards.
    • Members should discuss with the NSW RFS if any limitations need to be placed on their activities.

  • CLV19 Pre-requisites

    • Have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to participate in the CLV course.
    • Have gained NSW RFS Advanced Firefighter (AF) qualification and NSW RFS Village Firefighter (VF).
    • Demonstrate an aptitude for leading crews.
    • While there are no medical or physical fitness standards specified for the CLV course, the physically demanding role of a fire officer requires agility and the ability to detect and avoid hazards. It is advised that you discuss with your doctor whether you are suitable for participating as a Crew Leader.

  • CLW19 Pre-requisites

    • Have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to participate in the CLW course.
    • Have gained NSW RFS Advanced Firefighting (AF) certification.
      Demonstrate an aptitude for leading crews.
    • While medical and physical fitness standards are not specified for CLW, undertaking crew leader responsibilities is strenuous and demanding.   • HYD19 Pre-requisites

    • Have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to participate in the Hydraulics course.
    • Have completed NSW RFS Member Induction (MI) or equivalent.
    • Have completed Bush Firefighter (BF).

  • LDP15 Pre-requisites

    • Have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to participate in the LDP15 training program; AND/OR
    • Have required equivalent job role experience.

  • NAV19 Pre-requisites

    • Have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to participate in the NAV course.
    • Have successfully completed NSW RFS Member Induction (MI) course or equivalent.
    • Have successfully completed the NSW RFS Bush Firefighter (BF) course.

  • ORD19 Pre-requisites

    • Have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to participate in the ORD course.
    • Have completed NSW RFS Member Induction (MI) or equivalent.
    • Possess a driver’s licence appropriate to the type and size of the vehicle being driven. Refer to the Operational Protocol for Driving.
    • Be certified as competent in Rural Fire Driving (RFD).
    • Have completed NSW RFS Site Safety Checklist.
    • NSW RFS Bush Firefighter or Bush Fire Support certification or equivalent.

  • ORE15 Pre-requisites

    • A member must have NSW RFS Advanced Firefighter (AF) certification, or equivalent, before commencing the ORE program.
    • Before undertaking any practical ORE activities, a member must have successfully passed the medical and fitness tests specified for ORE by the NSW RFS.

  • RFD19 Pre-requisites

    • Have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to participate in the RFD course.
    • Have completed their NSW RFS Member Induction (MI) or equivalent.
      Possess a driver’s licence appropriate to the type of vehicle being driven. Refer to the Safe Driving Standard Operating Procedures.
      Be certified as competent in Bush Firefighter (BF) or Bush Fire Support (BFS) or equivalent.
    • Be able to understand, speak, read and write the English language sufficiently well to communicate effectively with other members in a team, comply with road regulations and signs, and operate a vehicle under a range of operational conditions.
    • If they are over 40 or have any significant illness, injury or disability, they should discuss with their doctor whether it is safe and appropriate to undertake the role of Rural Fire Driving, and advise the NSW RFS if any limitations need to be placed on their activities as a member.
    • Note: Most members seeking RFD certification do so in order to drive and operate firefighting appliances on the fireground. In such cases they should be encouraged (but are not required) to complete the CAS, HYD, NAV programs, or equivalent. This is because these programs provide skills that are also often relevant to operating firefighting appliances on the fireground.

  • SAF19 Pre-requisites

    • Sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to participate in the SAF course.
    • Completed the NSW RFS Safety Induction Course or its replacement Member Induction Course.
    • Completed Level 1 Incident Controller (CLS) or Incident Controller equivalent.

  • WFB19 Pre-requisites

    • Have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to participate in the WFB course.
    • Have completed their Member Induction or equivalent.
    • Have successfully completed Basic Firefighter (BF).

  • Note: Pre-requisite checks are completed prior to issuing joining instructions to candidates. Those who do not meet the pre-requisite requirements will not be accepted on the course.
