Guidelines For Your Story

Choose a story title from the list below and write a composition between 200 and 300 words. If you write your story by hand, ask a parent or guardian to type it up and upload it for you using the upload section below. The numbers displayed to the right of each story title indicate the remaining spaces available for submission. Each composition topic is limited to a maximum of 30 submissions, meaning only 30 students can submit a composition under each story title.You are welcome to choose a title, take time to research your chosen topic, and we also encourage you to visit the listed organisations below, some of which offer tours. Learning more about these organisations will help you write a more informed and engaging composition.

Young Authors Short Story Competition

We are inviting Barbados primary school students aged 8-11 to enter The Make a Book Primary School Composition Competition.
Thank you for your interest. Unfortunately, this registration is limited to residents of Barbados. Our system indicates that you are either located outside of Barbados or using a network based elsewhere.
Prizes: $200 Plus Gift Items!

Seventeen winners will be selected—one for each story category! Each winner will receive $200 in cash, plus exciting bonus prizes!
How It Works:

Choose a Sponsor – Select from our list of sponsors, each providing a unique story title.

Write The Story – Let the child's imagination run wild and create an original short story based on their chosen title.

Get Published! – Each winning entry will be published as an individual book.

Win the Grand Prize – One outstanding book will be chosen as the winner, and the author will receive a special cash prize!

Who Can Enter? Students aged 8 to 11 years old who love to write and want to share their creativity with the world.
