Surgical Research Society of Southern Africa, 52nd Annual Meeting 2025

Presentations by young academics are the heart of the Surgical Research Society of Southern Africas meetings. Abstracts for free papers and posters are now invited and submission of many abstracts is encouraged.

Please adhere to the guidelines for abstracts below to avoid re-formatting.

Font: Arial 11, single spacing

Margins: 2.5cm

Format: 

• Title of poster/paper followed by author(s) initials and surname (without titles or degrees) and institutional affiliation. (maximum of 5 authors)
• Presenters name to be underlined and indicate whether the presenter is a medical student, regsitrar, senior registrar, junior researcher or consultant
• Provide background to the study, aim, methodology, results and conclusion
• Abstract not to exceed 250 words

Abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee and may be subject to editing. The deadline for abstract submssion is 15th May 2025 and all presenters are required to register by no later than 8th June 2025

Content of abstract should be structured as follows;

1. Introduction or background to study
2. Research question or aim of study
3. Materials and methods (in the methods, the following should be clearly stated)
   
   • Study design- prospective, retrospective, etc
   • Setting and sampling
   • Inclusion and exclusion criteria
   • Data collected
   • Data analysis and statistical analysis used
   • Ethical considerations: ethics approval/ institutional board review
   • Results
4. Conclusion
5. only 1 table and/or picture may be included

Papers that were already published or are accepted for publication will not be accepted

After acceptance, exchange of the presenting author will only be possible following approval of a written request addressed to the chair of the review committee which can be sent to susanparkes@mweb.co.za .   Confirmation of acceptance of abstract will be communicated electronically to the presenting author by 5th June 2025

Accepted abstracts will only be integrated in the final program once the meeting registration form and payment of the presenting author have been received by latest 8th June 2025

 Authors whose paper has been selected for the prize sessions are strongly encouraged to submit the full manuscript to a peer-reviewed journal of their choice. The scientific committee can assist with guidelines for manuscript submission.
