  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Course

    Lakeshore Foundation is excited to host an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Course!

    Upon Successful completion of the course, participants will receive their lifeguard, CPR/AED, and first aid certification valid for 2 years.

     

    Course format: Blended learning. Participants are required to complete all online modules (takes around 7 hours to complete) prior to in-person skills class.

    In-person skills course: Saturday, May 3: 9:00-3:00 pm: Lakeshore Foundation- 4000 Ridgeway Drive, Homewood, AL  35209

    Pre-requisites: All participants must be able to successfully complete the following:

    • Swim 300 yards
    • Complete the following sequence of skills
      • Swim 20 yards, surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
      • Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface. Candidates are not permitted to swim the distance underwater.
    • Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs. Hands should be placed under armpits.
    • Swim 5 yards, submerge and retrieve three dive rings placed 5 yards apart in 4 to 7 feet of water, resurface and continue to swim another 5 yards to complete the skill sequence.

    *Prerequisites will be completed at the beginning of the in-person skills course*

    Any participant who is unable to complete pre-requisites will be counseled on a case by case basis.

    Cost: $200 per person (new certification), $100 per person (recertification)
