Community Cleanup Responsibilities
Keep your neighbourhood clean but follow these Health & Safety Procedures.
- Wear safety vests for visibility and disposable gloves for hygiene reasons.
- Use tongs or graspers to pick up garbage. DO NOT use your hands.
- If you find needles, report to staff for pick up or note the location for follow-up.
- Always work in pairs (minimum) for safety.
- Clean sidewalks and alleyways DO NOT go on private property!
- Note the location of large garbage items for follow-up (i.e. furniture, mattresses etc.
- If approached/questioned by individuals explain that you are a community policing volunteer cleaning up the neighbourhood. Present them with a GWCPC flyer if necessary.
- Direct all questions to the GWCPC office.

- Report to the activity supervisor on arrival to the event site and before leaving.
- All volunteers and visitors to the site must complete a registration form and read safety information.
- WCB regulations and the GWCPC Safety Policy must be followed on site.
- Personal protective equipment must be used as required by WCB regulations and GWCPC Safety Policy.
- No drugs or alcohol on site or prior to entering site.
- Safety is every worker's responsibility. Report all injuries, safety or environmental issues immediately to the GWCPC activity supervisor.
- All conduct to members of the public and fellow workers must be professional.
- Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated.
- Hand protection and safety glasses required where posted or to meet regulations. Good housekeeping must be maintained at all times.
- Closed toed shoes must be worn at all times.
