  • STAYING PUT – Anchoring 101
    8:30am - 9:20am

Learn the skills you need to stay secure and sleep soundly. This workshop covers the essentials of anchoring, picking up mooring buoys, and stern tying in close quarters. Whether you're setting the hook for lunch or overnighting in a busy cove, you’ll gain the confidence to stay put and stay safe — right where you planned.

  • CONFIDENT COMMUNICATION – VHF Radio 101
    9:30am - 10:20am

If you've ever hesitated before pressing the button on your VHF radio — you're not alone. This workshop will cover the basics of VHF communication, including how to contact marinas, make security calls, and send a proper Mayday. We’ll also review key legal requirements and FCC rules for proper radio use, along with features like weather channels, DSC distress buttons, and locating your GPS position on the radio. If time allows, participants will have a chance to practice making sample calls in a supportive, low-pressure environment — so you can sound clear, calm, and confident on the mic.

  • SIGNAL SMART – Distress Signals 101
    10:30am - 11:20am

Learn how to get noticed when it matters most. This hands-on session covers visual and audible distress signals — including an inert flare demo — so you’ll be prepared to signal smart in any emergency.

  • SALISH SEA SENSE – Local Knowledge 101
    11:30am - 12:20pm

From shifting currents to sudden fog, the Salish Sea has its quirks. This session unpacks local weather patterns, tidal flows, hazards, and top anchoring spots so you can navigate with confidence — no matter the forecast.

  • CLOSE CALLS – Lessons Learned Afloat
    12:30pm - 1:20pm

Emergencies don’t announce themselves in advance — they test your preparation, your crew, and your calm. A panel of local boaters shares real-life stories of unexpected boating emergencies and the lessons they learned. Includes an introduction to tools like Crew Resource Management and Critical Checklists to help you respond more effectively under pressure.

  • READY TO ROLL – Trailering 101
    1:30pm - 2:20pm

Whether you're new to towing or just want to sharpen your skills, this workshop covers the essentials of trailering your boat safely and confidently. We’ll discuss maintenance, safety checks, and launch ramp prep, then head outside for a hands-on look at real trailers. Stick around afterward for an optional visit to the boat launch to see trailering in action!
