  • Self Employment.  We are happy to perform all the bookkeeping for you and can quote for this is not already agreed.

Please be aware that from 6th April 2026, you MAY need to be reporting self employed income & expenses to HMRC digitally using online software if your fee income is more than £50K. If your income is more than £30K, then this kicks in from April 2027, and more than £20,000 - it is April 2028. We encourage people to start from April 2025 to "get into the swing of things".

  • Have you had any self-employment during the tax year*
  • What is your self employment accounting period? You should only be on 31st march or 5th April as this was all changed in 2023/2024. If you have another date, please let us know as your 2023/2024 return may need to be changed.
  • Are you using the "cash basis" to record your Self Employment income and expenditure? What this is? This if you are using bank statements and picking out your income and expenses, or literally the cash in your pocket? There are restrictions to this - mainly you cannot claim any capital allowances for large purchases, and interest charged. Please see email on cash basis sent out at the end of March 2025
  • Did you start self employment in this tax year?
  • Did you finish self employment in this tax year?
  • Are we doing your bookkeeping for you?

  • Do you use any accounting software for your self employment? If yes please ensure you invite us as your accountants/advisor/accounting user.

  • Did you receive any self employed income from overseas and was any withholding tax deducted? If so, we will need to have a copy of the contract / remittance advise saying what the gross fee was and then the amount of overseas income tax was deducted. Overseas income tax can be offset against UK income tax (rules apply) but not any social security deductions.

  • Thank you so much for working through this. I hope it will be easier than emails going back & forth and you'll have everything done in one place.  If you need any help, please let us know.

Please click on the "send" button and then we will be able to start work on your tax return.

Returns are prepared in the order that the complete information is received so the sooner we have it, the sooner we can file your return. In the ideal world, we'd like to crack on with it all from June.

    Thanks again
