  • Welcome to Our Family!

Thank you for adopting a rescue and making a lifetime commitment to your new family member. We recommend feeding them Purina Pro-Plan or Purina One (adult or Puppy). We highly recommend crate training, especially with puppies. Never use the crate as a discipline tool, but rather a training tool. Dog-proof the area where your pooch will spend most of their time during the first few months.

Bringing a new dog home, they need more than just a bed and food bowl to thrive. They also need consistent care and attention. While a puppy's first night at home may require a lot of work initially, it is well worth the effort down the road.

Establishing good habits in those first weeks will lay the groundwork for a lifetime of happiness for you and your dog. Remember, you have a responsibility to help your rescue dog grow into a happy and healthy dog.

Training your dog will start the first moment you have them. Take time to create a vocabulary list that everyone will use when giving your dog directions. This will help with preventing confusion and aid in command learning.

We recommend bringing your new addition to your local vet within the first week of adoption. In your package, you should receive a free vet visit coupon that can be used at any Banfield Veterinary location. A monthly flea/tick treatment and heartworm prevention is important for your dog's health. We also recommend a fecal test.

All of our rescue animals have been dewormed, but we recommend continuing the process until at least 6 months old. Rescue animals have never been on a healthy healthcare regimen until Pack Leaders Rescue of CT came into their lives.

Your rescue animal is up to date on vaccines per their current age. If over 4 months old, spay and neutered was conducted. If they are over 6 month old, they have been heartworm tested.

I fully understand that if my dog is under the age of 4 months, he or she has not been spayed/neutered and it will be my responsibility to have it completed at the appropriate age and weight. In this case, spaying/neutering is NOT included in the adoption fee unless written on the vet's paperwork and will be done at the adopter's expense.

I acknowledge and agree with all the above with my signature.
