City of Lynn & Town of Swampscott King's Beach UV Pilot Program Summer Intern Application Form
The City of Lynn and Town of Swampscott will be conducting a pilot program this summer using ultraviolet light to disinfect stormwater before it discharges onto a public beach. The communities of Lynn and Swampscott are looking for intern assistance with daily sampling of various parameters of stormwater upstream/downstream of the UV pilot unit to evaluate the efficacy of UV as a disinfectant for the purpose of deactivating bacteria and protecting public health at a recreational swimming beach. We are currently seeking 1-2 undergrad or graduate students to help with weekday water quality sampling for a pilot project. This is an unpaid, three-month internship. Interns should expect up to 3 hours of work daily, with timing adjusted for tides. You'll sample from a UV unit (no beach sampling), using lab analysis, on-site probes, and a UV transmittance device. Training provided.
