    John Dominguez Music Enrichment Scholarship - 2025
  • SCHOLARSHIP HISTORY:

    Starting in 2019, the UTSA Summer Band Institute launched a scholarship in the name of John Dominguez in recognition of his outstanding service to UTSA Alumni programs and our summer music camps. This scholarship will be awarded to one deserving high school camper. 

    John Dominguez was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. He attended Luther Burbank High School and the University of Texas at San Antonio. He began his work in Northside ISD as a marching percussion instructor and private lessons teacher at Oliver Wendell Holmes High School in 1997. After his graduation from UTSA in 2000, he became an Assistant Band Director at Holmes and then served as Director of Bands at Holmes from 2003-2005.

    Mr. Dominguez helped begin the John Paul Stevens Band program in 2005 as the Assistant Director alongside Robert Rubio. He served as the Fine Arts Department Coordinator at Stevens from 2010-2016. During this time, the Stevens Fine Arts Department grew into the largest fine arts department in Northside ISD. Mr. Dominguez was named the Stevens High School Educator of the Year for the 2012-13 school year. He currently serves as Director of Bands at Stevens High School.

    This scholarship is designed to assist outstanding young musicians who share a strong passion for music.

    SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE:

    All applications must be submitted by Friday, May 2nd by 11:59pm. Any applications submitted after this deadline will not be considered. An official decision will be made by May 18th, 2025.
