Behavior Policy
At Santa Cruz Learning Center, we strive to create a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all campers and staff. To support a positive experience for everyone, we expect all children to:
- Treat others with kindness and respect
- Follow staff directions
- Keep hands, feet, and belongings to themselves
- Stay with the group and within designated areas
- Cooperate when it's time to leave a location, such as the beach or park
- Keep camp friendly and positive—no swearing, name-calling, or rude talk
Behaviors such as hitting, biting, verbal aggression, destruction of property, or eloping (leaving the group without permission) compromise the safety and well-being of others and cannot be allowed at camp.
Our staff uses positive guidance and redirection to support campers in making good choices.
This includes:
- Giving clear, age-appropriate expectations
- Offering choices when possible
- Using calm, respectful language
- Helping campers identify feelings and practice problem-solving
- Providing space or time to cool down if needed
- Redirecting to a different activity or peer group when appropriate
If a camper displays unsafe or harmful behavior to themselves or others, we will call a parent or guardian to pick them up. This will serve as a first warning, and the child may return to camp the following day.
If the behavior occurs again, the child will be dismissed from the program for the remainder of the session. At that point, no refund will be issued.
We are committed to working with families and welcome any insight into strategies that help support your child’s success in group settings.
Together, we can help ensure a safe and joyful experience for all campers.
