• Application for Staff Member at the Travellers Rest - Hythe 16hrs+ Temporary Position

    Description This position is for over 18s, it is a minimum of 16hrs per week, with a view to increase over busy periods. This contract will involve a lot of weekends with at least one weekend off per month. The initial temporary contract will be until 4th January 2027.

  • Firstly, It is essential for this position that you are available to work on any day of the week, and any shift. Are you able to do this?*

  • This position is weekend heavy, as described. Are you able to commit to this?*
  • This position will be covering the Christmas period 2026, the main days will be Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, Sunday 27th, Monday Bank Holiday, New Years Eve and New years Day. We aim to spread the days amongst all staff but you will be expected to work at least either Christmas Eve or Boxing Day, Sunday 27th or Monday BH, New Years Eve or New Years day. Can you confirm that you can commit to this?*
  • You have to prove you can legally work in this country, do you have a passport or driving license?*
  • Though bar work will be your main job you will also be serving tables as well as cleaning, watering plants in the garden and occasionally helping in the kitchen. Are you okay with this?*
  • We are a family run business, operating in a tough industry and reliable staff are an absolute necessity. Being late and falsely calling in sick can cause issues with staff moral and financially damage the business. Do you understand the importance of attending shifts and being on time?*
  • We operate a Challenge 25 policy. Do you understand how important it is not to serve to under 18s and be able to challenge those that look under 18?*
  • Can you lift 20kg unaided?*

    This is one of the most important factors we look for. It is absolutely essential that our staff are able to communicate with our customers on all levels. We expect everything from 'Banter' to polite enquires about how a customers day is, and show genuine interest while doing it. We will not employ anyone not capable of this. 

    A desire to support your colleagues

    We don't use the word team work here as it implies people only work under instruction. Our staff do tasks to help each other because they want to, we are closer to a family here. We expect anyone coming on board with us to feel the same.  

    Meet physical demands

    Front of house/bar work can be physically demanding and can get very busy. As an absolute minimum you will be required to be able to lift, at the most, a 20kg box of cider and a 12kg empty keg. During Sunday service you will be getting those steps in carrying food to tables too so we will need someone capable to fulfil this requirment.
