  • The following are the terms of the programme for participating stations. As part of the programme stations must agree to :

    • Pay the graduates under the terms of the graduate programme(see below)
    • Raising the awareness of the bursary on-air and through their social media channels
    • Ensure that graduates attend all editorial meetings and are involved hands on in story generation, selection and verification
    • Ensure that graduates work as part of newsroom/sports team during the 5 months to produce on-air and online content
    • Ensure the graduate produces at least one piece of content that will focus on Diversity, Climate Change/Sustainability and/or the Irish Language as part of the internship.  This content must be broadcast as part of one of the stations programmes (see details below in Section 7).
    • Allow the graduate full access to studio’s and equipment as required during the 5 month placement
    • Release the graduate for designated Learning Waves courses
    • Provide access to laptop/phone/zoom recorders etc for the graduate, as required over the duration of the programme
    • Ensure graduates are covered under the stations insurance
    • Sign a written agreement with Learning Waves and the graduate on commencement of the placement.  This agreement will detail all parties responsibilities and entitlements over the course of the programme.
    • Sign off on graduates monthly reports
    • Participate in the evaluation of the programme on its completion
    • Support the graduate in achieving certfication associated with the programme.
  • Section 6 - Graduate Payment Terms

  • Graduate Payments

    Under the Learning Waves Journalism Graduate Programme students will be paid in the following way :

    A total of €1950 per month will be paid to the graduate.

    • €1250 of this will be supported by Learning Waves(funding for this will come from the Coimisiún na Meán and Learning Waves0)
    • €700 of this will be covered by the station

    The full amount will be paid by the station who is hosting the graduate for the 5 months with Learning Waves paying the station €1250 per month receipt of the graduate monthly report.  The report must be submitted by the student and signed off by the station mentor. Full and transparent records of graduate payments will be required by Learning Waves on a monthly basis from the host station

    Over the 5 month period, Learning Waves will contribute €6,250 towards the cost of the salary for the graduate and the station will contribute €3,500 towards the cost of the salary for the graduate

    Any PAYE/PRSI costs will be incurred by the host station for the duration of the programme

    The host station will cover graduates expenses to attend Learning Waves training courses if required

    The host station will cover any mileage or travel expenses incurred by the graduate during the course of the programme where this relates to the work for the station.

    Full payment terms will be written and agreed with Learning Waves, the graduate and the station on commencement of the programme.

     

  • Section 7 - Development of Programme Content

  • The host station will commit to broadcasting content created by the graduate as part of the programme that will focus on one of the following areas :

    • Diversity and Inclusion
    • Sustainability/Climate Change
    • Irish Language

    Graduates will be given a brief from Learning Waves in relation to the above. This will be in addition to content created for general programming/news bulletins etc.

    This content can be broadcast as either a programme feature, a series of news inserts/features, one long piece.  Overall the content must be 20 minutes in duration and the content must focus on the above two topics and must relate to the demographic of the station.

    In addition to the above, the content generated by the graduate will be submitted as part of the certification process for the course.
