The Soup Festival Story
Back in 2016, a small group of people came together to start a communal garden at Milparinka. Pumpkin seeds were sown, plants were nurtured, and before long, the garden was overflowing with more pumpkins than we knew what to do with. So we gathered together in the garden to make and share bowls of soup. From that beautiful moment, the Soup Festival was born.
Almost every year since then, SEEDs Communal Garden at Milparinka has hosted Soup Fest—a vibrant celebration of delicious, seasonal soups made from local produce. Soup Fest is about more than just soup—it’s about connection. It’s about coming together on an end of Winter’s day to meet new people, share stories, and create something special as a community.
This wholesome day is filled with live music, DJs, dancing, market stalls, workshops, and more. And each year, is proudly supported by an incredible group of local businesses, including The Big Umbrella, Inner North Brewing Co, Wildlife Bakery, Henkel Street Cinema, Nelson Alexander, One Man One Pan, Art Space Art Therapy, Lamanna, Bowens, Plantfulness, Poyntons Nursery, Impact Neighbourhoods, and many more.
Milparinka is a disability service that supports hundreds of people and their families to live the lives they choose. We are supported in this work by our community all year round—and Soup Fest is one of the ways of giving back.
