Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - A Cresset Performing Arts Project
  • Following the success of 2024's School of Rock The Musical, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will be a full scale production, staged in The Cresset Theatre from 20th November - 23rd November 2025 for a total of 6 performances. The production will be directed by Stuart Morrison & Monique Benoiton-Smith.

All youth performers will need to attend one of the ‘Ensemble’ auditions on either Weds, 14th or Thurs, 15th May 2025. From there, we will then choose who we would like to see for the principle auditions.

Final call backs will be held on Sunday 18th May by invitation only.

  • IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Please note that for those who are successful in being offered a place in this production, there will be a performance fee payable of £80 to cover the costs of child licensing, chaperones and costumes. There will be a number of bursary places available for anyone who may need support with this payment. More information regarding this will be sent out to all successful applicants.

    ·       There is no cost to audition for this production

    ·       Check-in will open 30 mins before the start of the audition. Please be on time!

    ·       Please expect to be here for the entire time slot as there may be large numbers of auditionees and we may ask to see children more than once, within the audition.

    ·       Please encourage and help your child to familiarise themselves with the storyline of the musical and if possible, familiarise themselves with music from the show.

    ·       The ensemble audition takes between 20-30 minutes and auditionees will be called through in groups to learn a short excerpt from a song and a short dance routine.

    ·       Anyone asked to return for the principle auditions will be asked to read a short piece of script and to sing a section of song appropriate to the relevant character. Script and music material will be emailed out approx 1 week prior to auditions for those who wish to be considered for a principle role.

    ·       We understand that children may feel nervous. However, we try to keep our auditions relaxed and fun so please encourage them to enjoy the experience.

    ·       Please wear comfortable clothing

    ·       Auditions will take place to select the entire ensemble. We will then select children from the ensemble to take any featured roles.

    ·       We will inform you of the outcome within 7 days after the final audition

    Performances:  20th Novemeber - 23rd November 2025

We are likely to have two teams for the junior ensemble who will perform in alternate shows. Senior ensemble and principals may be selected to perform in all shows and we ask that all children are available for the whole performance period.

    Rehearsals

Rehearsals will commence fully in September on Wednesday evenings here at the Cresset Theatre. There will also be a handful of rehearsals prior to the summer holidays so that performers have material to work on over the summer break.

Principle performers will also be required for some Monday evening rehearsals. There are also occasional weekend rehearsals scheduled. Exact timings and schedule will be confirmed after auditions.
