We, the undersigned, respectfully urge the Hancock County Planning Commission to NOT recommend for approval the proposed Hancock County MegaSite Planned Unit Development adjacent to Tuttle Orchards, located at 5717 N 300 W, Greenfield IN 46140.
Tuttle Orchards is more than just a working farm—it is a cherished destination where families gather to enjoy the beauty of the countryside, take part in seasonal traditions like apple and pumpkin picking and hayrides, and experience the authentic charm of rural life. For years, the farm has served as an important piece of our community’s identity, supporting local agriculture, education, and tourism. Tuttle Orchards also contributes to Hancock County by providing employment for community members and bringing visitors to the county.
The proposed Planned Use Development could alter the nature of the Tuttle Orchard's customer experience. The presence of large industrial structures, increased noise and lights, and potential traffic pattern changes could negatively impact the peaceful, scenic environment that visitors value deeply and impact the ability of Tuttle Orchards to provide the same experience for our community for years to come.
By signing this petition, we are expressing our opposition to the current planed unit development plan and urging community leaders to:
- Protect the rural and agricultural integrity of the area surrounding Tuttle Orchards by reconsidering the placement of industrial use adjacent to an established agritourism destination.
- Consider the need for significant natural buffers between industrial uses and agritourism uses that would maintain the farm atmosphere for visitors to the orchard.
- Consider any traffic pattern changes that would significantly impact traffic on 300 W that could affect the safety of guests visiting Tuttle Orchards.
- Support thoughtful development that balances economic growth with community traditions and long time community businesses like Tuttle Orchards.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
