Story Structure
Tell us about your experience of serving or belonging in the life of the church. Maybe you’ve found purpose through ministry, grown through community, or experienced God’s presence in unexpected ways. Your story can help someone else take their next step.
Use this 4-part storytelling guide to help organize your thoughts:
1. “There was a time…”
Start with the beginning—how you started serving or what drew you into deeper connection.
Were you hesitant? Did someone invite you? Did a need speak to your heart?
2. “But God met me…”
Describe how serving or connecting changed your heart or impacted your faith journey.
What moment made it real? What surprised you? How did God show up?
3. “Here’s what I’ve learned…”
Share what this experience taught you—about God, about people, or about yourself.
What truth do you carry because of this experience?
4. “And if you’re listening…”
Invite or encourage someone who hasn’t yet found their place to get involved.
What would you say to someone nervous about serving or joining a group?
Short Example (Based on: “Why I Serve at [Church Name]”)
There was a time I thought I didn’t have anything to offer. I came to church, sat quietly, and left. I never imagined myself on the hospitality team.
But God met me when someone simply asked, “Would you be willing to greet people at the door?” That small yes turned into something so meaningful. I got to pray with a visitor one Sunday—and we’re still friends to this day.
Here’s what I’ve learned: Sometimes your purpose is just one invitation away. God uses small steps to build big faith.
And if you’re listening, don’t wait until you feel ready. Just be willing. There’s a place for you here, and it might change your life too.
