  • THE AAAP FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

    The American Association of Avian Pathologists (AAAP) is dedicated to the encouragement and development of talented individuals who are interested in careers in poultry health and/or food safety.  Through the AAAP Foundation and its partners, 21 scholarships are offered each year; 5 AAAP Foundation/Merck Animal Health Veterinary Student Scholarships, 2 AAAP Foundation/Elanco Memorial Scholarships, 1 AAAP Foundation/Cobb Scholarship, and 13 AAAP Foundation Poultry Scholarships.  Please read the descriptions of all the scholarships offered and then indicate the scholarship(s) for which you are applying.

  • AAAP   Foundation/Merck Animal Health Veterinary Student Scholarships

    The AAAP Foundation and Merck Animal Health are dedicated to promoting scientific knowledge for the health and well-being of poultry and a safe food supply as well as supporting outstanding veterinary students. Merck Animal Health is proud to demonstrate its dedication to veterinary students by providing $50,000 in financial support to award five second and third year students with $10,000 scholarships. Merck’s partnership with the AAAP Foundation helps to achieve the Foundation’s goal of assisting students with financial support to encourage a career track in poultry health and well-being, or food safety.  Students must be currently enrolled and in good standing at an AVMA accredited and recognized school of veterinary medicine.

  • AAAP Foundation/Cobb Scholarship

    One $5,000 scholarship is presented to a 3rd or 4th year veterinary student interested in poultry medicine, currently enrolled and in good standing at an AVMA accredited and recognized school of veterinary medicine.

  • AAAP Foundation/Elanco Memorial Scholarships

    The Elanco Memorial scholarships are intended to honor the memory of past Elanco poultry veterinarians and scientists by supporting learning opportunities for future generations. One undergraduate student will be awarded a $2000 scholarship, while a $3000 scholarship will be presented to a veterinary student interested in poultry medicine.

  • AAAP Foundation Poultry Scholarships

    The AAAP Foundation Scholarship program accepts scholarship applications from students who are pursuing a career in poultry health and well-being and/or food safety in North America.  Eligible students should attend a veterinary college accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), or an accredited undergraduate university.  Students must meet one of the following educational criteria to be considered:

    1. Enrollment in a university undergraduate curriculum involving avian science, poultry science, food science, animal science, biology, or equivalent with the intent to pursue a MS, PhD, or veterinary degree with a career focus on poultry health and well-being and/or food safety; OR

    2. Enrollment in a veterinary college leading to a DVM or VMD degree and a career focus on poultry health and well-being and/or food safety.

  • THE AAAP FOUNDATION EXTERNSHIPS

    The AAAP Foundation is proud to offer an externship poultry medicine training program to qualified veterinary students. The purpose of the externships is to enable interested veterinary students to expand their education, training, and veterinary skills through practical experience in their specialized field. The AAAP Foundation has solicited the cooperation of its members in establishing a variety of training sites including universities, diagnostic laboratories, poultry production companies and poultry breeding companies. The Foundation annually offers individual awards of up to $1,500.00 to veterinary students to help them defray housing, living and travel expenses incurred while attending the externship. Eligible students must be in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of study at an AVMA accredited college of veterinary medicine located in the U.S.A., Canada, Mexico, or the Caribbean Islands. Students arrange their externships under the auspices of their veterinary medical schools. Through the AAAP Foundation and its partners, the following externships are offered: Kenneth H. Eskelund Externship Scholarship, Aviagen Externship Scholarship, Association of Veterinarians in Egg Production (AVEP) Externship Scholarship, Alltech Externship Scholarship, Huvepharma Externship Scholarship, and Southern Poultry Research Group, Inc. Externship Scholarship.

  • Both Scholarships and Externships will be awarded based on assessment of the following credentials:

    1. Academic record (Provide complete official transcripts from academic institutions.)
    2. Recommendation form provided by two persons who are knowledgeable about the applicant and his or her career goals; submitted by the writer and separate from the application.
    3. CV.
    4. A brief essay (500 words or less) describing career goals. - Scholarship Only

    Scholarships may be renewed by reapplying if funding is available and the student demonstrates satisfactory performance.

    Scholarship and externship applications use the same recommendation form. Recommendation forms should be submitted separately from the application.

  • CONDITIONS OF EXTERNSHIP It is expressly understood that students will not be provided with insurance by the extern unless otherwise stated on the externship information sheet. Students will be serving their externship at their own risk and that neither the AAAP Foundation, Inc., its affiliate, successors, nor assigns shall be liable for any claims damages or causes what-so-ever arising out of or in conjunction with student participation in this externship program. It is expressly understood that students awarded externship will be under no obligation, contractual or by expectation, to perform future services for either AAAP Foundation, Inc. or the organization operating the training facility. Financial reimbursement, up to $1,500.00, will be paid following the submission to the Foundation of: 1. The completed externship evaluation form 2. An itemized list of expenses incurred during the approved time period at the approved training site. Original copies of the hotel, airline and rail receipts are required. Meals should be itemized by day and must be reasonable expenses not exceeding your university limits. Use of a private vehicle will be paid at 57 cents per mile when itemized by day. Any expenses submitted for reimbursement other than what is outlined in this paragraph are subject to Foundation approval. Recipients of externship awards will be required to substantiate the proper use of their grants and the foundation will seek to recover any improperly used funds.
