Birds play a major role in keeping the ecosystems of our home planet intact and improving the lives of humans. From acting as pest control, helping the growth and spread of plant life, indicating environmental health, and being a source of inspiration through their beautiful colors, songs, and ability to fly, their benefits are numerous.
However, they face a myriad of threats to their survival, often resulting from human-made issues. One of the most prominent ones is that of collisions with glass. In fact, research has shown that anywhere from 300 million to a billion birds die every year from strikes in the US alone
Fortunately, there are plenty of solutions to reduce and prevent these unnecessary deaths. Potential options include applying window films, installing bird-safe glass, angling windows down, and other renovations.
As such, we at Bird Safe Indy, an initiative of the Amos Butler Audubon Society, have created this petition to provide to the Indianapolis City-County Council. We desire to show how much this issue means to their constituents. If you live in the Indianapolis area and would support requirements for new construction projects and those owned by the public, state, and local governments to incorporate these practices, please read the full request in the attached file, fill out the form below, and add your signature
Thank you for your support, and let's make our city safe for our feathered friends!
