    Looking after your new piercing

    • Use sterile saline spray twice daily after 24 hours. Spray a small amount onto the area and ensure the area is fully dry, you can use a small fan, hairdryer on a cool setting or gently dry with a cotton swab.
    • For all oral piercing only use saline on the outside of your mouth and use an alcohol free mouthwash to clean the inside.
    • Do not twist, turn or fiddle with your new piercing.
    • Tighten balls often to prevent coming loose, to tighten you need to twist the ball clockwise.
    • Downsize the jewellery as soon as it is ready to do so.
    • Avoid submerging in water and avoid extreme heat for at least four weeks.
    • Be careful to avoid snagging the new piercing on clothing, hair, glasses etc.
    • Don’t sleep on the side you’ve just been pierced on, use a donut or travel pillow if this can be difficult for you.
    • Avoid any creams or ointments, such as: surgical spirit, antiseptic creams, TCP etc.
    • Drink plenty of water to help the body promote healing.

    Piercing Bumps
Sometimes no matter how careful we are things happen! Piercing bumps occur when the piercing itself is unhappy and this can happen for a variety of reasons, such as:

    • Snagged on hair or clothing.
    • Using things like TCP to clean the area.
    • Skin sensitivity to jewellery material.
    • Angles of the piercing, this happens usually when the jewellery has not been downsized.
    • Excess moisture.

With a little care piercing bumps can be treated by yourself at home, try these tips and if the problem still persists please visit us and we can advise you on what to do next.

    • Downsize the jewellery as soon as it’s able to do so, this prevents snagging and angling due to pressure.
    • Clean the area gently with saline and ensure it’s fully dry afterwards.
    • Warm compress with a clean, warm facecloth, try this for up to ten minutes a day and ensure dry afterwards.

If this doesn’t work, pop into the studio and we can check everything out for you and ensure you have suitable jewellery and at a suitable length.
