  • Self-Help and Independence

  • At BEL-Haven, we support children in developing independence through daily routines and self-help skills, at a pace that feels comfortable and encouraging. 

    With our nurturing, guidance and close supervision, children in this program are generally able to:

    • Use the washroom independently and communicate their toileting needs
    • Carry out basic self-care routines (e.g., handwashing, eating, putting on shoes or outerwear)
    • Move through daily transitions and activities with care
    • Participate fully in our daily activities

  • B5 - Communication

    We work closely with families and ask that you stay connected and respond when needed. Understanding your child’s communication and care needs helps us create a responsive and supportive environment.

  • B6 - Toileting

    Children in this program must be potty trained. Your response to this question will help us understand if your child may need occasional reminders or supervision with bathroom routines. Please note that staff do not provide toileting training or diapering support in this program.
  • Caregiver support is an important part of a positive childcare experience for children aged 18 months to 5 years.

    Please dress your child appropriately for the weather, as outdoor time may be included when conditions allow.

    Children should arrive dressed in:

    • Comfortable, art-friendly clothing that can get messy
    • Non-slip socks or clean indoor shoes for indoor use

    While our team supports children in tracking their belongings, BEL-C is not responsible for lost or misplaced items. Please label all personal items, including:

    • Water bottles
    • Clothing
    • Bags and containers
    • Shoes
    • Comfort items
