Audience
The primary audience for Healthcare Executive magazine is senior and mid-level healthcare executives, including CEOs, COOs, and other C-suite titles, vice presidents and managers and leaders responsible for advancing health. Most of our readers are based in hospitals or health systems, but all facilities in the healthcare continuum are represented.
Types of Articles
Articles for Healthcare Executive should be clear and concise. Articles should focus on action—specific, practical steps readers can take to improve performance in their organizations. Some articles may focus on strategy, and some may focus more on tactics, but all articles should explain why the issue is important and how to improve performance. Tools and examples are encouraged. Articles generally run 1,000–1,200 words.
Topics
High-priority topics are those that affect the largest segment of our audience. Topics include leadership, workforce, quality and patient safety, governance, patient-centered care, population health, value-based care, operational investments, innovation/technology and more Our editorial calendar is the best resource for potential topics.
Pitfalls
These are the types of queries we most often receive that do not fit our needs:
- Scholarly works more suitable for an academic journal.
- Proposed articles that are overly general or lack action steps.
- Proposed articles that are authored by a vendor, even if the article would be vendor neutral.
- Articles that are fundamental in nature. Most of our readers are experienced healthcare professionals and understand basic healthcare management and operations.
Review
All queries are given editorial consideration. This process takes time—anywhere from one to three months. After that time, we’ll let you know whether the proposed topic is accepted and take you through next steps. You will hear from an editor to discuss the editorial process.
Publication
Unfortunately, we cannot promise publication in a specific issue of the magazine. In addition, even if the proposed query and topic are accepted and approved, we cannot promise that the article—even though written, will be published. However, we do make every effort to publish articles.
