2024 IV Programme Application
  • 2025 International Visitors (IV) Programme

The International Visitors (IV) Programme provides a valuable cultural and economic exchange between Canada’s publishing community and some of the most influential publishing figures from around the world. Since its inception in 2008, it has generated visibility and marketability for Canadian literature abroad, by introducing international publishers to the Canadian literary scene, and strengthening relationships with international counterparts that have led to new business development initiatives and the creation of new literary works.

The IV Programme takes place every fall during the Toronto International Festival of Authors (October 29 – November 2, 2025). Over the course of five days, IV Fellows will experience a curated schedule of structured inter-industry dialogue and events led by distinguished professionals. Activities include quick-pitch meetings that lead to rights acquisitions of Canadian works, networking opportunities, and presentations on such topics as negotiation, industry trends and changes, international rights, and niche publishing. The IV Programme operates as an informal rights fair, providing Canadian authors, publishers and agents an unprecedented opportunity to secure international rights and distribution deals.

    2025 will mark the IV Programme’s 18th iteration, taking place October 28 – November 1, 2025.

The IV Programme is open to both Canadian and International applicants. To submit your interest in participating, please use the dropdown menu, below, to indicate which fellowship stream best applies, and complete the corresponding application.

    Canadian Fellowship Application

The goal of the Canadian Fellowship is to provide a mid-career Canadian publishing professional the chance to meet and engage with the international fellows in the IV Programme, and gain a global perspective on the industry.

The offer is open to applicants from across Canada working in editorial, subsidiary rights, or within literary agencies, and who have a minimum of (three) 3 years experience in the industry. Selection will be facilitated by the IV Programme committee with consideration given to each candidate’s experience, reasons for wanting to attend the programme and specific area(s) of professional interest.

Canadian fellows will participate in the majority of program events, with the exception of select appointments with publishing houses.

Interested applicants must complete the online application form and upload all requested materials, including their resume and a letter of recommendation from a senior industry professional.

The deadline for Canadian Fellowship applications is May 22, 2025.

    International Visitors (IV) Fellowship Application

The IV Programme welcomes applications from international acquiring editors, agents and scouts, who represent authors in Canada or acquire Canadian titles for their territory, to participate as IV Fellows.

IV Fellows participate in all IV events, including quick-pitch meetings with literary agents, rights managers, publishers and editors. Additionally, there may be opportunities to speak at industry panels and round table discussions. IV Fellows’ schedules consist largely of appointments set up through the Programme and include Festival events. There are opportunities to set up additional appointments during the Programme.

Funding for the IV Programme is obtained through various domestic and international funding bodies. Applications are reviewed by the IV Organizing Committee who adjudicates all selections. Successful applicants will be contacted in May.

Interested applicants must submit a resume and a one-page letter that outlines the following: your current job and experience in publishing, your specific areas of editorial interest, the names of Canadian books you have published and/or Canadian authors you have worked with, and finally, your reasons for applying to the IV Programme this year.

The deadline for IV Fellowship applications is May 22, 2025.
