For this new series of artworks (paintings, prints and installations), I will expand on my ocean-centric works by creating art in response to water-themed mythologies and folklore; rituals; astrological references; and personal stories, poems and dreams collected from the community. Storytelling creates an emotional connection and is a fundamental part of being human. It is my intention to create meaningful connections through the act of sharing our stories.
Water shapes the human experience.
Health and well-being, spiritual inspiration, travel, and extreme weather events are a few of myriad ways water shapes the human experience. I am interested in the significance of water in people’s lives. Examples include: crossing a large body of water to start a new life; sacred rituals involving water; the thrill of surfing or scuba diving; not having access to safe drinking water; losing a home due to a flood; feeling awestruck while witnessing the beauty of the natural world, etc.
The artworks created for this project will be inspired by, and possibly include text from, the water-centric stories (and dreams) collected from my collaborators.
