Purpose:
To provide a non-renewable academic award to a first-time incoming freshman, from the Washington DC, Maryland, or Virginia area, attending Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA). Applicants are expected to be active community contributors and show determination to achieve success through academics, character, and service to XULA.
General Requirements:
- First time freshman admitted to Xavier University of Louisiana
- Current resident of District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia
- Minimum 3.0 G.P.A
- Active community service record
A Completed Package Includes:
- Online application form
- One letter of recommendation by a counselor, Xavier alumnus, professor, community role model, or mentor.
- The letter must include the original signature of the recommender as well as contact information (email and phone):
- Must be sent electronically by the recommender directly to xuclub5@gmail.com and vmyersii05+xulaaward26@gmail.com.
- Please ensure to let the recommender know how to submit their recommendation as follows: Email Subject Title: 2026 Award Recommendation for "First name Last name".
- Documented community service.
- Acceptable documentation is a letter from a school counselor or organization coordinator on official letterhead, a copy of the official service learning hours record, or similar official documentation with verifiable supervisor contact information.
- The Nature and duration of service events should be evident.
- Signed letter of intent to accept admission at XULA.
- Essay question responses.
- Copy of Academic transcript (official transcript highly recommended).
- A professional picture (e.g., senior photos).
General Rules for Authenticity:
All applicants are required to submit their original work. The personal essay and all responses within the application must be entirely written by the applicant. The use of generative AI tools (such as ChatGPT or similar), ghostwriters, or assistance from any other individual in drafting, editing, or completing any portion of the application is strictly prohibited.
If there is evidence that any part of the application, including the essay, was generated or written by AI or another person, the applicant may be disqualified from consideration for the award.
Instructions:
- Application deadline is July 3, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. EDT. No Exceptions!
- Incomplete or ineligible applications will not be reviewed.
- Recipients will be notified via email before the end of July 2026.
- Recipients are expected to attend the Freshman Sendoff sponsored by the DMV Alumni chapter. This event will be held in the local area in late-July, early-August.
Materials will only be accepted electronically. Most materials can be submitted via this online portal with the application form. Any additional supporting documents should be emailed to xuclub5@gmail.com and vmyersii05+xulaaward26@gmail.com. Email Subject title: "First name initial and last name" followed by XULA DMV Award 2026 (e.g. CThompson XULA DMV Award 2026).
Deadline for the application is July 3, 2026, at 11:59pm EDT. Applications received after this date will not be reviewed.
