    Mentor Commitment Sign Up Form/Fact Sheet
  • We're excited to introduce you to ASID's Mentorship Program, which pairs experienced designers like yourself with ASID Senior Student Members and Emerging Professionals. We warmly invite you to participate. By joining this program, you agree to the following commitments:

    • Pairing up with (1 to 5) mentees for a 6 month period (number of mentees & period of time can be accommodated to your personal preferences)
    • Dedicate a minimum of 1-2 hours per month to engage with mentees (via virtual meetings, phone calls, emails, messages, etc.)
    • Respond to communications from your mentee within a reasonable timeframe (ideally within 3-5 business days)
    • Approach this relationship with empathy, encouragement, and professionalism.

    OPTIONAL BUT VALUABLE

    • Invite your mentee to shadow a meeting, site visit, or industry event(s)
    • Share examples of real projects or challenges (while maintaining client confidentiality)
    • Offer portfolio reviews or mock interviews when relevant.

    WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR MENTEES

    Student Mentees:

    • Career development advice & practice
    • Resume & portfolio tips, interview-related questions, inquiries about your personal journey, career options, career challenges, etc.
    • Career knowledge
    • What to expect in the coming years, the untold truths of the industry, etc.

    Emerging professionals:

    • Industry/trade knowledge:
      • Tips on contractor/vendor correspondence, codes/regulations/industry standards, project timelines, client troubles, etc.
    • Career development advice:
      • Interview advice, resume/portfolio tips, career path advice, workflow tips, building self-confidence/overcoming imposter syndrome, work-life balance, etc.
    • Workplace functionality:
      • Library management/storage, vendor relationship management, CRM program tips, client presentation advice, etc.
      • Tips on fitting in a new work culture, communications, seeking hidden opportunities, role advancement, etc.
    • Business practices:
      • Business management, contracts/invoicing, budgeting, branding, client onboarding, etc.
  • I acknowledge the importance of my role and commit to being a supportive, honest, and dependable mentor throughout the duration of this program.
