  • NOTICE:

    Use this self-assessment tool to help determine if you are protected against measles. If you have additional questions about measles or the measles vaccine, please call your healthcare provider, or contact the Flathead City-County Health Department at 406-751-8110.

  • If you were born before 1957, you are presumed to have immunity to measles and you do not need a vaccine. If you have questions or concerns, we recommend talking to your primary care provider about your unique situation. You can also contact the Flathead City-County Health Department at 406-751-8110.

  • There were multiple types of measles vaccine available in the United States between 1963 and 1967. Call your healthcare provider or the Flathead City-County Health Department to discuss if the vaccine you received was effective or if you need to be revaccinated.

    If you were born before 1957, you have presumed immunity and do not need a vaccine.

  • If you received a measles vaccine after 1968 – whether measles alone or MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) – you may or may not need an additional vaccine. You are considered immune to measles if:

    • You have received 2 doses of MMR and you are:
      • A school-aged child (grades K-12)
      • An adult who will be in a setting that poses a high-risk for measles transmission, including students at post-high school education institutions, healthcare personnel and international travelers.
    • You received 1 dose of measles-containing vaccine, and you are:
      • A preschool-aged child
      • An adult who will NOT be in a high-risk setting for measles transmission
    • Have laboratory confirmation that you had measles at some point in your life
    • Have laboratory confirmation that you have a history of vaccination
    • You were born before 1957.

  • If you think you received a measles vaccine in the state of Montana, there are several options to obtain your vaccine records:

    • Click here to submit an online request form to the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) for your vaccination record.

    OR

    • Click here to submit an online request form to the Flathead City-County Health Department Immunization Office for your vaccination record. 

    OR

    • Call the healthcare provider/clinic where you received the vaccines and request your vaccination records.

  • If you do not know whether or not you have had a measles vaccine, are unable to obtain your immunization records, and were born in 1957 or later, the recommendation is to get vaccinated.

  • MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) is a routine childhood vaccine: the first dose is given at 12-15 months and the second dose is given at 4-6 years. If an older child has not had either dose or has missed their second dose, it’s not too late to get on a catch-up schedule!
