The Community Spay/Neuter Program is a service offered through Rest Stop Rescue that is 100% funded by the community.
At Rest Stop Rescue, we are making efforts to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies in and around the Portage la Prairie area. Though there is an application process, Rest Stop Rescue does not have any financial or circumstancial requirements to be eligible for this program.
Priority is granted to intact female canines or intact female canines living in a home with intact males. If your canine does not fit in the priority que, this can affect your placement in line. However, if your intact male already have a confirmed appointment, this will not be reversed unless there is an emergency spay that needs to take place.
Females that are pregnant at the time of their appointment (to the owners knowledge or not) are not eligible to be spayed until 8 weeks after they have delivered and their milk supply has diminished. We do not support abortions. If your female is found to be pregnant upon exam, we will kindly ask that you return the the veterinary clinic to possess your canine. No reimbursements are available for fuel costs or time taken off work.
Any additional procedures or exams at your appointment will be a 100% cost to the owner. This is including (but not limited to) distemper/lyme disease/kennel cough/rabies vaccine, Nexgard, Heartguard, necessary grooming due to matting, tooth extractions, pre anesthetic blood testing, blood transfusions, microchipping, excessive nail trimming or surgical findings/complications. This program does include an identification tattoo as well as pain/anti inflammatory medications to take home. The cost of a cone is not covered.
For owners knowledge : Preanesthetic Blood Testing
A physical examination is performed before administering anesthesia. Blood testing tells how well the organs are working. Abnormalities of the liver, kidney or blood can increase anesthetic risk. For these reasons, we highly recommend preanesthetic blood screens.
Pets with fleas must be treated to prevent spread in clinic. A fee will apply if your canine is a carrier.
IV fluids are mandatory for dogs.
Pricing is subject to change.
The spay/neuter procedure will occur at Gladstone Veterinary Clinic in Gladstone, MB. This program is not provided through any additional clinics and it is non transferable. If transportation is needed to/from (or both) the clinic, there will be a section of this application to fill out below to accommodate you.
