  • Have You Experienced a Qualifying Event?

  • The Refund Committee will consider requests for adjustments to tuition/fee charges when a student experienced one of the Qualifying Events listed below and can provide the required documentation.

    Approved Quailfying Events:

    • Student Illness
    • Primary Caregiver for Ill Family Member
    • Death of Immediate Family Member
    • Military Deployment
    • Change in Employment
    • Victim of a Crime
    • Natural Disaster or Emergency 
    • Verifiable Institutional Error

     

  • Do You Have ALL the Required Documents Ready?

  • Student Illness:

    An unexpected illness or injury that prevented the student’s continued attendance.

    Required Documents:

    • A Student Illness Certification Form must be completed by a licensed medical professional and submitted with the appeal.
  • Primary Caregiver for Ill Family Member:

    The student became the primary caregiver for an ill family member.

    Required Document(s):

    • A Primary Caregiver for Ill Family Member Certification Form must be completed by a licensed medical professional and submitted with the appeal.
  • Death of Immediate Familiy Member:

    A student’s spouse, children (son or daughter), and parents are immediate family members for purposes of this appeal category.

    Required Document(s):

    1. A Death of Immediate Family Member Certification Form AND
    2. One of the following Official documents (Death Certificate, Obituary, Death Notice)
  • Military Deployment:

    Deployment and reactivation dates must be within the semester you are appealing.

    Required Document(s):

    • A copy of your official deployment/reactivation notice must be submitted with the appeal.
  • Change in Employment:

    Change in employment beyond the student’s control that prevents the student from attending the classes for which he/she is registered.

    Required Document(s):

    • A Change in Employment Certification Form must be submitted with the appeal.
  • Victim of A Crime - Required Doucments:

    The student was the victim of a crime and/or violence, harassment, stalking, etc.

    Required Document(s):

    • A copy of the police report must be submitted with the appeal.
  • Natural Disaster or Emergency - Required Doucments:

    This only applies when Delgado changes policy due to a disaster or emergency. Acceptable documentation and instruction will be posted on the Tuition Appeal website.

  • Verifiable Institutional Error:

    • An Institutional Error Certification Form must be submitted with the appeal.

    Failure to meet one of the Approved Qualifying Events AND provide the REQUIRED documents will result in appeal denial.

  • Are you the student?

  • If you are not the student, STOP HERE. The student must file a Tuition Appeal, regardless of FERPA access or age.

    Please email refundrequest@dcc.edu to discuss the student's case or the appeal cannot move forward. The student will be copied on all Tuition Appeal communication.

  • Are All Your Classes Dropped or Withdrawn?

  • Please make sure all appealed classes are dropped or withdrawn.

    Information on filing an Acadmeic Appeal is published in the Student Handbook and Catalog.

    Appealed classes that received a grade (including a failing grade) will be DENIED.

  • Have You Checked Your Finances?

  • Before filing Tuition Appeal, please make sure to check with your financing sources  about how a Tuition Appeal could effect you. 

    If financial assistance was received, submission of a tuition/fee adjustment appeal could impact your financial aid status and result in money owed.

    It is recommended you discuss these implications with the Financial Aid Office and/of Veteran's Affairs before submitting an appeal.

  • One Final Check that All Requirements are Met

  • Students are entitled to submit ONE appeal per semester or term. 

    Be sure:

    • You Are the Student
    • You Expirenced an Approved Qualifying Event
    • You Have ALL the Required Documents Ready
    • All Your Classes are Dropped or Withdrawn
    • You Checked Your Finances

    Appeals for reasons not listed OR that contain documentation other than what is requested on the Tuition/Fee Adjustment Appeals Guidlines will be DENIED.
