    Volunteer Agreement

  • Thank you for sharing your time, energy, and heart with the North Plains Food Bank. As a volunteer, you play a vital role in helping us serve families in need and fulfill our mission with compassion and dignity. We truly appreciate everything you do.

To ensure a positive and organized experience for everyone—volunteers and families alike—please review the following expectations and responsibilities.

    Volunteer Expectations & Responsibilities

As a valued volunteer, you are expected to:

    • Arrive on time for your scheduled shifts so we can operate smoothly.
    • Follow instructions from staff members and team leaders—Lora, Cindy, or Mary—as they are here to guide and support our operations.
    • Stay in your assigned position while shoppers are present to maintain flow and organization.
    • Treat all clients, staff, and fellow volunteers with respect, kindness, and dignity at all times.
    • Maintain confidentiality regarding any client information you may encounter.
    • Adhere to food safety protocols to ensure a safe environment for everyone.
    • Help manage the flow of shopper traffic and keep things moving in an orderly fashion.
    • Communicate any concerns or questions directly to a staff member or team leader.

    Food Bank Conduct & Guidelines

To keep things fair, respectful, and efficient:

    • Snacks must be kept and eaten only in the storage room. Volunteers should not eat in public or client areas while shoppers are present.
    • Volunteers eligible to shop may do so only once per day, either before opening or when there are no active shoppers—and must follow the same rules as all other clients.
    • Special treatment is not permitted. Every shopper is to be treated equally, with no exceptions.
    • If you see something that needs to be addressed, report it to Lora, Cindy, or Mary—they will handle it appropriately.
    • Directions from staff leaders must be followed. Their guidance ensures smooth operation and fairness for everyone involved.

    Food Safety Procedures and Protocols:

Ensuring the safety of the food we distribute is paramount. Here are some food safety procedures and protocols to follow:

    • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before handling food.
    • Wear disposable gloves when handling food, especially when touching ready-to-eat items.
    • Keep food storage areas clean and organized to prevent pests and contamination.
    • Check expiration dates and inspect food items for damage before distributing.
    • Store perishable items, such as dairy and meat products, in refrigerators or freezers at the appropriate temperature.
    • Follow proper procedures for transporting and delivering food to ensure it remains safe for consumption.

    Code of Conduct:

All volunteers are expected to adhere to the following code of conduct:

    • Be punctual and reliable.
    • Respect the diversity and dignity of all individuals.
    • Work collaboratively as part of a team.
    • Conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times.
    • Use appropriate language and behavior.
