SMART (Striving to Meet Achievement in Reading Together) is Idaho’s innovative two-year cohort project for public district and charter educators and administrators. Grounded in the Science of Reading, SMART is designed to ensure that every child becomes a confident, proficient reader.
Participants deepen their understanding of how children learn to read by exploring the cognitive processes involved in reading development and the evidence-based instructional strategies that provide effective support. This powerful blend of research and practice helps educators understand why reading success can vary and how to improve literacy outcomes for all students. Throughout the project, educators and school leaders engage in high-quality professional development, individualized coaching, and ongoing technical assistance.
SMART fosters collaboration among educators and literacy experts to drive meaningful, lasting change in literacy instruction. With a strong focus on capacity building and continuous improvement, SMART empowers schools to transform instruction and close achievement gaps across Idaho.
