Defund Organizations that Coordinate with and then Lobby SF Gov Entities Logo
  • Should We Taxpayers be Funding Groups that Often Lobby Against Us?

  • Background:

Ideological initiatives such as the ballot measure that resulted in the Upper Great Highway closure, infrastructure projects such as the Valencia St Streets Project, and experiments such as the neckdown on Kirkham St continue to be prioritized within SFMTA.  This is in large part due to groups that work closely with SFMTA to come up with these ideas and then lobby the SFMTA and our city government to give SFMTA cover.  There are several organizations that engage in this behavior, two of the most active are the San Francisco Bike Coalition and Walk SF.

Coincidentally, both San Francisco Bike Coalition and Walk SF are contracted by SFMTA. YES, we taxpayers are partially funding these organizations to lobby against the majority of San Franciscans.

Walk SF has received $311,274.00 from SFMTA between FY 2022-2024.

San Francisco Bike Coalition received $2,788,151 from FY 2022-2025 and has $425,736.00 left to be paid to them in their current contract with SFMTA.

If you don't want to fund special interests lobbying SF government, make your voice heard—ask your Supervisor to defund any entity that coordinates with our city government and then lobbies "city hall," including the San Francisco Bike Coalition and Walk SF.
