According to VMEA home school policy, all home school directors must complete the following in order for home school students to participate in VMEA (VBODA, VCDA, VEMEA, and VGDA Guitar) events using the following guidelines for eligibility. Deadline for submission is AUGUST 1, 2025.
VMEA Homeschool Policy Statement
Students, that are residents of Virginia, and attend homeschools may participate in VMEA (VBODA, VCDA, VEMEA, and VGDA) events using the following guidelines for eligibility:

Homeschool ensembles and/or sponsors must complete their annual registration form, available on the VMEA website, no later than August 1 of the upcoming school year and be approved by the VMEA President’s Committee and Interest Section Presidents.

A student representing a homeschool must enter the audition process in the same region/district as the VMEA Region/District in which the homeschool resides.
- Home school students who participate in a homeschool band, orchestra, choral, or guitar program on a regular basis are eligible to audition for All District, All Region and All Virginia events.
- Home school students who do not participate in a home school ensemble may participate in Solo & Ensemble Event if their respective home school principal registers them through a VMEA-member director from a participating school. This would be contingent on approval of the school district and agreement of the director.
- Home schools with a band, orchestra, or choral program may participate in district assessments. All students must be home schooled students and regular performing members of that organization.
