Family Tafsir Night
In-Depth Analysis of the Quran
(Surah Taha)
Surah Taha (Chapter 20 of the Qur'an) opens with a reassurance to the Prophet ﷺ that the Qur'an was not sent down to cause him hardship but as a reminder. Most of the surah follows the life of Prophet Musa (Moses), from his call at the sacred valley to his confrontation with Pharaoh. It is also the surah that, according to the well-known account, softened the heart of Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA), the namesake of our center, when he heard it recited in his sister's home.
This Quarter: Ayaat 74-135
We pick up the story after the magicians declare their faith. Musa leads Bani Isra'il through the sea, and within days many of them turn to worship a golden calf. From there, the surah moves to the story of Adam (AS), scenes of the Day of Judgment, and closing guidance for the believers. A theme runs through all of it: how easily people forget, even after seeing the signs, and how remembrance kept alive in the home protects a family. As Allah says, "Enjoin prayer upon your family, and be steadfast in it" (20:132).
