Job Title: Van Conversion Lead
Reports to: Shop Manager
Location: Port Townsend, Washington
Job Summary
Camp N Car is looking for an experienced and versatile Van Conversion Lead to oversee and help craft world-class camper conversions across a wide range of vehicles. From spacious Sprinter vans to compact car campers, this leadership role offers hands-on involvement in every stage of the build process, from project inception to final delivery.
While carpentry is a major focus, the Van Conversion Lead will also spearhead 12V system installations, plumbing work, exterior modifications, and more. This is a pivotal role within our growing Custom Shop team, blending skilled craftsmanship with leadership and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Custom Shop team on diverse projects, including full van conversions, car camper builds, RV renovations, and more, ensuring every project meets Camp N Car’s exceptional standards.
- Act as lead installer and fabricator for wood furniture and interior components such as cabinetry, bed platforms, storage solutions, trim pieces, and paneling.
- Carry out the installation of 12V electrical systems, including wiring, solar panel mounting, and system troubleshooting.
- Install freshwater and greywater plumbing systems, including sinks, showers, composting toilets, and water heaters.
- Install diesel and gasoline heaters from brands like Webasto and Espar.
- Interface with clients on occasion and assist management with custom work consultations, project design discussions, and estimates.
- Accurately track and report time, materials, and expenses for each project
- Continuously contribute ideas to improve project designs, shop workflow, and overall quality standards.
- Positively influence team culture and assist in mentoring and supporting other technicians.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have strong professional experience in finish carpentry or cabinetry and a broad understanding of 12V electrical systems, plumbing, and off-grid vehicle infrastructure. Experience in van conversions is highly preferred. At minimum, we require a background in boat building, off-grid tiny homes, or RV fabrication.
Success in this role requires hands-on leadership, excellent problem-solving skills, and an inclusive approach to communication and collaboration. Familiarity with current vanlife culture is a plus, but not required. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to our shop in Port Townsend, Washington.

- Starting pay ranges between $30 - $35 an hour depending on experience.

Schedule
- 4-day work week, Monday through Thursday
- Work days start at 9:00 AM and end at 5:00 PM with unpaid lunch and one paid break
- Option to increase to a 5-day work week Monday - Friday after a 90-day probationary period
- Option to increase to a 10-hour workday after 90-day probationary period
