Scholarship Description
The Cabri Griffin Memorial Scholarship Fund awards one (1) $1200 scholarship to a graduating senior with sickle cell disease who resides in Southern California, which includes the counties of Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, and Ventura County.
The Cabri Griffin Scholarship is designed to alleviate financial obstacles and empower a deserving student with sickle cell disease to achieve their academic goals.
This scholarship is specifically for students living with sickle cell disease and can be used for expenses directly associated with their college education, such as tuition, fees, room and board, and books.
One recipient will be awarded $1,200 annually for up to four years, provided they meet the eligibility requirements yearly*.
Scholarship Eligibility Requirements
1. An individual living with sickle cell disease.
2. Resident of Southern California (Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, and Ventura County).
3. A 2025 graduating high school senior enrolling in a non-profit or public education institute, or a non-profit technical school, full-time (12 units or more)
4. Have a current minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0

Submit your essay with a cover page that includes your name, phone number, email address, and your academic or vocational plans after high school graduation.

Submit a letter from your doctor or lab result documenting a history of sickle cell disease diagnosed before age 18.

Submit a copy of your acceptance letter or letter from the college registrar's office.

Submit a copy of an official or unofficial transcript(s) sent directly by your school counselor to deborahg@scdfc.org
- Submit one letter of recommendation from a teacher, school counselor, supervisor/manager, church leader, community leader, etc.
Submitted essays will not be returned. We will send you a confirmation email once we receive your completed application.
Essay topic: Please write a two-page, typed, double-spaced, 11-point font essay on
"What this scholarship means to you. How will you use this scholarship to uplift your family and community?"

Award Distribution Information:
Award notification will be made by August 1, 2025
*A copy of the awardee's registration class schedule will need to be provided prior to the distribution of funds for each school semester/year. The $1200 award is subject to being divided by half for each semester, ie, Fall 2025 $600 / Spring 2026 $600, and so forth.
Must maintain a B average (3.0 GPA) in college for both semesters with full-time registration (12 units per academic year).
Provide Annual proof of full-time enrollment & GPA from official transcript or college letter.
