    2025-2026 Liahona Distance Education Registration

  • DISTANCE EDUCATION REGISTRATION

Please be aware of the following as you complete this registration form:

    1. Upon form completion, you will be charged a NON-REFUNDABLE registration fee of $75 per student.  Credit cards are charged a 3% processing fee.  The form of payment used to pay the enrollment fee will become the default payment for all future tuition payments.  Contact our accounting department to make payment source changes.

    2. You will read Liahona's Distance Education Policies and Procedures and sign saying you understand and are willing to abide by them.

    3. Our primary way of communication is via email, thus, a valid email address must be provided for both parent AND student.  To help you stay abreast of school information, we recommend creating an email strictly for school use.

    4. Our Elementary Distance Education program is offered only as a bundle and includes Language Arts, Science, History, and Math.

    5. Intermediate (Grades 7-8) and High School (Grades 9-12) courses are offered ala carte.  You may select from one to all four core courses.  Elective courses are also available. Students must enroll in at least one core course to take an elective course.

    6. If your student has learning disabilities, including anxiety, depression, etc., please notify us as soon as possible.

  • Math Placement

Math courses are available based on the student's ability.  We strongly encourage students to take the math placement test to ensure enrollment corresponds with ability. Three levels of math tests are included; all include a grading sheet.  Please download the applicable test and have your student complete as much as possible.  Then, using the grading sheet, correct the test and determine your child's recommended math course.

**NOTE**Liahona uses pre-common core curriculum (Saxon math among others). It is common for a student to be placed in a lower level than at previous schools.  Most likely, this is not a reflection of a student's abilities but a representation of the utilization of a different curriculum.

Non-accreditation facilitates homeschooling, allowing parents to oversee their student's learning.  Non-accredited students use Liahona's curriculum to assist parents in their homeschooling endeavors.  Parents assign final grades.

  • PLEASE NOTE: Liahona has a four-year high school curriculum.   We will be using our Year One curriculum.  The following is a brief synopsis of each course:

Year One - Genre Studies / Liahona Grammar Vol. 1
Students study different types of literature, which have been historically important such as the difference between fiction and biography, essay and discourse, and narrative versus expository writing. Using Formalism, Comparative Literature, and other appropriate literary theories, students will consider how a text is written and how its form contributes to the overall meaning of the text. This study will help students discern and select uplifting and wholesome literature and better understand the scriptures. This will also prepare them for writing and reading in college.

    History

    American Government and Civics
The divine origin of our Constitution, the government it established, and the privileges it guarantees will be studied. Original source documents such as those from Wycliffe, Knox, and Huss of the Reformation to Jefferson, Washington, and Franklin of the American Revolution are analyzed. Comments from prophets and apostles regarding historical events and figures are included. Students discover how to be one of the "threads" that upholds the U.S. Constitution, as referred to by Joseph Smith.

     Chemistry
This class covers the basic principles of Chemistry, such as atoms and atomic structure, how elements bond together, chemicals, the Periodic Table, and the development of organized problem-solving. This class also highlights how Divine Law and organization are discoverable by scientific inquiry. Classes will have regular experiments to recreate discoveries both simple and complex.

    Math

Liahona uses an incremental math curriculum called Saxon Math. Within an incremental curriculum, topics are developed in small steps spread over time. One facet of a concept is taught and practiced before the next facet is introduced. Both facets are then practiced together until it is time for the third to be introduced. Instead of being organized into chapters that rapidly develop a topic and then move on to the next strand, Saxon Math is organized into a series of lessons that gradually develop concepts. This approach gives students the time to develop a deeper understanding of concepts and how to apply them. Through continual review, previously-presented concepts are practiced frequently and extensively throughout the year. Saxon’s cumulative daily practice strengthens students’ grasp of concepts and improves their long-term retention of concepts.

Liahona students are not placed in math classes based on their age, but according to concept mastery of the prior curriculum. Sometimes it is necessary for students to repeat a course in order to demonstrate an 80% or higher mastery level. Below is the Saxon math curriculum offered at the Academy and to Distance Education students where indicated.

Accreditation follows the classic approach for schooling, requiring students to submit coursework for grading, passing tests, quizzes, etc.  Students are required to take and pass a proctored exam each semester to earn course credit.  Teachers will assign a final course grade at each semester's end.

Non-accreditation facilitates homeschooling, allowing parents to oversee their student's learning.  Non-accredited students use Liahona's curriculum to assist parents in their homeschooling endeavors.  Parents assign final grades.

PLEASE NOTE: Liahona has a four-year high school curriculum.

  • Elementary Distance Education

    Grades 1-6
  • Elementary Distance Education: Roots of Knowledge..  Live classes for students 1-6 grades will be broadcast daily. If you like the flexibility of recorded classes, you will still have that as classes are also recorded and put online daily; you can simply watch a day or week or whatever behind the live classes. This live program will allow you to have all of your elementary students on one computer/TV for most of the day learning together in a group. Live math classes will be available at each student's individual level as well.

Liahona Elementary does not require extra cost to be "accredited." With the help of our teachers and curriculum, students and parents will grade their own work to determine their final grades.

If you would like our teachers to be more involved in the grading process (i.e. grading select tests, papers, etc.) and receive a final grade each semester from the teachers, you may choose to be "Grade Supervised" for an additional $35 per month per student.

  • Distance Education Elementary Tuition

First Student is $140/month for 10 months; $1400/school year

Each additional student is $90/month x 10 months; $900/school year
