  • Welcome & Intructions

    • Northpoint takes your safety and that of our team members and visitors seriously.
    • Please review and ensure you understand this induction prior to commencing work on a Northpoint site.
    • If you have any questions regarding safety or need to report a concern, please see the department manager at the site.
    • The following slides will also provide you with important safety information that is specific to Northpoint sites.
    • Failure to comply with site safety requirements may result in you / your business being asked no cease providing further services to Northpoint.

    Asbestos Management

    • All Northpoint Sites have an Asbestos Register which are located at the reception counters of each dealership.
    • Each register has a Contractor’s Sign-In page whereby you can confirm that you have reviewed the register and are aware of all locations where asbestos containing materials (ACM) are found.
    • It is a requirement that all Contractors sign the register who are required to undertake works that might impact upon ACM.
    • Should any works to be undertaken be found to impact upon ACM, then this inormation must be brought to the attention of the department manager & HSEC Officer, prior to commencing work.
    • Should any ACM be accidently damaged during works, this information must be brought to the attention of the department manager & HSEC Officer.

    Confined Space Entry

Each dealership holds a Confined Space Register that identifies and describes the location and associated hazards of all Confined Spaces.

The Confined Space Register will be made available to all contractors that are either proposing or undertaking confined space work.

The Confined Spaces Permit shall be used to identify hazards, assess their risks and detail controls to be applied for entering and working in any confined space identified on the Confined Spaces Register.

All confined spaces will be identified by approved signage.

All persons undertaking confined space entries shall be:

    • Competent persons.
    • Trained & authorised to undertake confined space entries.

The HSEC officer  (Authorising Person) will be consulted during the planning stage prior to undertaken any confined space works.

    Emergency Evacuation

If there is a need to evacuate the premises for any reason, you must follow the instructions of the Wardens. They will be the people wearing a red hat or helmet.

Each Department has an air horn which will be blown continuously to announce the need to evacuate. This will often be accompanied by someone yelling “Get Out.”

You need to know where the Emergency Assembly Area is – refer to the local Emergency Plans for your location and familiarise yourself with the location of the nearest emergency exit.

    Hazard Awareness

Be aware of your working environment. Always look out for hazards, for example:

    • Lots of vehicle movements (Hybrids are very quiet and are difficult to hear)
    • Faulty equipment
    • Spills
    • Trailing electrical leads and other tripping hazards
    • Boxes/parts etc. left in walkways
    • Defective equipment (these must be tagged out)

Never ignore hazards or expect someone else to report them.

    Incident Reporting & First Aid

It is important that ALL incidents and near misses are reported.

Incidents must be reported to the Department Manager or Supervisor who will ensure the HSEC Officer is notified.

All work sites have posters identifying the First Aiders for each area.

If you need to access our First aid kits (the locations are identified on the fire & evacuation plan for each site).

If you are evacuated, remain at the emergency assembly area till either a warden or the Fire Service tells you it is safe to re-enter the building.

    Licencing Information

Where licencing / certification is required for the tasks being completed onsite, please email scanned copies to permit our register to be updated.

    • Examples of licence information required could include (but not limited to):
    • Electrical Contractor licence
    • Plumbing Contractor licence
    • EWP or Forklift licence
    • Trade Certificate

    PPE

    • It is a Northpoint requirement that protective footwear is worn if work is to be undertaken in any of the Service Workshops or Warehouse. Other areas require footwear that’s suitable and appropriate for the task.
    • If you are completing a task that requires eye and or hand protection, you must supply and use your own PPE that is suitable and appropriate for the task. (If you need access to PPE, please discuss with the department manager).
    • Other items of PPE, such as hearing protection, respirators, specialty gloves, welding mask etc must be worn where identified by your SWMS, JSA or Risk Assessment.

Remember, PPE is simply placing a barrier between you and the potential harm, the hazard still exists!

    Driver & Vehicle Safety

You must park your vehicle in the designated bays. Please ask a Northpoint team member if you are not sure.

If you need to bring your vehicle into a workshop – follow directional signage (as applicable) and abide by the site speed limit (Max. 5 kmh).

Hazard lights must be operated when moving, and horns are to be sounded before passing through any door openings.

At all times operators must have the correct licence type for the vehicle / truck being operated. It is the contractor's responsibility to ensure they maintain a register or method of monitoring this process for their staff.

No persons are allowed in proximity of mobile plant and lifting equipment (e.g., exclusion zone of at least 3m when forklifts are operating.

Public Liability & Insurance, & Workers Compensation

If you have not done so, please complete and submit the “Supplier Questionnaire” regarding safety documentation, insurance coverage and licencing information.

It is always the contractor's responsibility to ensure that all the above insurances (and licences where applicable) are current and in effect when conducting work on sites.

Any contractor working on a Northpoint site must have current public liability and workers compensation insurance. No work is permitted to commence if the insurance requirements are not current and valid.

Updated documents can be uploaded directly via the QR Code found on our Contractors Home Page.

    Requirements for Interaction & Permits

The law requires that you must consider if there are potential interactions that may give rise to a hazard between your works and any other persons onsite, and address these prior to commencing the task. If such interactions occur a risk assessment is required.

These may include but are not limited to:

    • Electrical shock
    • Slip / trip hazards
    • Confined space entry - (special permit required)
    • Asbestos (legislative requirements required)
    • Fire Hazard / welding flash (welding / cutting or associated processes) – particularly in workshop areas.
    • Vehicle or plant collision with pedestrian or other vehicles
    • Falls risk (from ladder, other equipment, or roof)
    • Persons being struck by falling objects

You MUST assess if there are any such consideration before commencing works and take appropriate precautions.

You may choose to use your own risk assessment or JSA template (upon approval of site safety personnel). If you do not have your own version, please use the templates provided.

Northpoint has also provided copies of a “Work at heights” and “Hot Works Permits” to use when completing these tasks if you don’t have an approved template.

If you require assistance or equipment to address an identified risk, consult with the manager or supervisor PRIOR to commencing works and under no circumstances commence works if a risk has been identified that cannot be properly rectified.

Please go to the Northpoint Contractor Home Page to view or use the provided HSEC resources.

    WHS System Documentation

Depending upon the scope of works to be undertaken Northpoint may request information relating to your work health & safety systems.

Upon review, if it is determined that such systems do not adequately address the work being completed this may result in a request to revise the systems to meet group requirements.

Should you require assistance, the Northpoint HSEC Officer is available by emailing  hsec@northpoint.com.au or calling 0457 749 180 to answer any questions you might have and will be able to confirm if your documents satisfy the requirements.
